A quick glance at the tops of the towering pines from the window of the truck proves the wind will be relentless today. Pretty standard around here, it's what makes the few bluebird calm days we get in the Ark Valley so magical.
As we gear up for our walk up the mountain we joke about the weather and chase rogue gear in the wind. It's difficult to sense how cold it really is but the gusts are obvious. A quick beacon check reminds everyone that we are each other's lifelines if things go south. The uncertainty and comradery of playing outside in the mountains bring a spark to my life that is addicting.
The top of the mountain is scoured from wind exposing all the rocks. But right where the trees begin so do beautiful wales of snow deposited by that same force of nature. This is what we came here for, it is time for swooshing and giggling all the way back down."
