Celebration of Life For Eagle Residents Seth Bossung, Andy Jessen, and Adam Palmer to Live Stream Sunday, February 28

In celebration of the lives of Eagle, Colorado residents Seth Bossung, Andy Jessen, and Adam Palmer, friends and family and the Vilar Performing Arts Center (VPAC) present a livestream musical tribute this Sunday, February 28 featuring Custom 20, the Olora Brothers, Hardscrabble, and several other local musicians.

EAGLE, CO— In celebration of the lives of Eagle, Colorado residents Seth Bossung, Andy Jessen, and Adam Palmer, friends and family and the Vilar Performing Arts Center (VPAC) present a livestream musical tribute this Sunday, February 28 featuring Custom 20, the Olora Brothers, Hardscrabble, and several other local musicians.

The loss of Bossung, Jessen, and Palmer is felt deeply in their families and the Eagle community. All were husbands, sons, and stewards of the environment. Bossung worked in the Eagle County Sustainable Communities Department, was an Energy Smart Colorado home auditor, architect and LEAD specialist, a fiddle player, and the father of two. Palmer served as Director of the Eagle County Sustainable Communities Department, a founding member Hardscrabble, Olora Bros, Six Penny, and Custom 20, a town council member, a Holy Cross Energy Board member, long time volunteer for the Hardscrabble Trails Coalition, and the father of two as well. Jessen, who co-owned Bonfire Brewing and managed the Bonfire Block Party with his wife Amanda, served as Eagle mayor pro tem, a sponsor of the Eagle River Park project, a bowling and softball enthusiast, a Subaru (Brat) zealot, and a proud dog dad.

Fifteen local musicians will perform at this benefit concert, for which donations will benefit Vail Mountain Rescue Group, San Juan County Search & Rescue, and the Bossung, Jessen, and Palmer families. Elli Varas, Custom 20, the Olora Brothers, and Hardscrabble will perform throughout the evening. This event will be live streamed for free on the Vilar Performing Arts Center’s YouTube channel on Sunday beginning at 5pm, and all viewers are encouraged to donate through MobileCause. Both the streaming and donation link can be accessed at vilarpac.org.

“We believe that music and the arts can help us cope, celebrate and express just a glimmer of our deep gratitude and admiration for these men,” says Owen Hutchinson, the Executive Director at VPAC. “Each of them made such a lasting and positive impact in our community, and we hope this live streamed event will offer those who knew them an evening to reflect, remember and rejoice all they brought to our lives.”

No in-person tickets are available to the public for this event. We hope everyone will join us from the comfort of their homes as we live stream the event from the VPAC stage.

On Monday, March 1 a local restaurant effort to raise funds for these families through Bonfire Brewing beer, Gather ‘Round Week, will launch at more than 20 venues across the county.

Eagle Valley Restaurants Present Gather ‘Round Week in Celebration and Support of Avalanche Victims from Eagle, Colorado

Cameron Douglas who owns Montauk and El Segundo has organized a county-wide effort for local restaurants to support the families of avalanche victims through Bonfire Brewing beer.

Gather-Round-Week_FB-Banner.jpg

EAGLE, CO— In response to the loss of three of Eagle’s community members in an avalanche in Silverton, Cameron Douglas who owns Montauk and El Segundo, has organized a county-wide effort for local restaurants to support the families of these victims through the liquid that brings us all together: Beer. Gather ‘Round Week, named after the Bonfire Brewing slogan and deep community impact in Eagle and beyond, will launch March 1 and go through March 7.

More than 20 restaurants and counting have committed to donating proceeds from Bonfire Brewing beers sold back to the Bossung, Jessen, and Palmer families during the first week of March. They are listed below and updated daily.

“This effort is about Eagle coming together to support these families who are anchors in our community,” Douglas says of Gather ‘Round Week. Douglas and his wife Heather have lived and worked in the valley for nearly 20 years, and experienced the power of the community to rally around its people. “From bikes to beers to conservation, these are three people who helped make Eagle cool. They’ve always given back, and now it’s our turn to do the same,” he adds.

“After this news broke, Cameron reached out to me with this idea having already gotten restaurants on board. Him taking this initiative shows just how much our community really cares about everyone in it,” says Bonfire’s Mountain Ale Ambassador Doug Fenske. “These restaurants and bars have always shown us an incredible amount of support throughout our 10 years in business, and now more than ever have shown us what it means to gather ‘round.”

Cameron Douglas and his team are managing donations for Gather ‘Round Week. Restaurants interested in participating should contact montaukvail@gmail.com.

To purchase Bonfire Beer to sell at your bar or restaurant, contact Doug Fenske at doug@bonfirebrewing.com or (970) 456-1491.

Bonfire Brewing Statement: February 18, 2021

The Bonfire Brewing team is humbled by the Eagle and Colorado beer communities that have offered support after the loss of Co-Owner Andy Jessen in an avalanche in Silverton.

EAGLE, CO— The Bonfire Brewing team is humbled by the Eagle and Colorado beer communities that have offered support after the loss of Co-Owner Andy Jessen in an avalanche in Silverton. These volunteer and fundraising efforts have helped the brewery maintain operations to continue serving its community during this time of shock and grief.

In response to an outpouring of local support and to supplement unexpected expenses, Bonfire launched this GoFundMe campaign

In addition to contributing to this GoFundMe campaign, fans and friends of Colorado beer can support the brewery during this time by purchasing Bonfire beer at the tasting room in Eagle, at restaurants, or in liquor stores across Bonfire’s distribution footprint along the I-70 Corridor and across Colorado’s Front Range. They can also purchase merchandise at the brewery or through the online store and send cards to PO Box 5276.

Last week, residents of the town of Eagle honored Andy and fellow adventurers Adam Palmer and Seth Bossung with a gathering at Eagle’s River Park that Bonfire co-sponsored. The Town of Eagle also resurrected the now notorious Christmas penis monument that Andy adamantly crusaded to keep erect in effort to “Keep Eagle Weird” last year.

Bonfire Brewing expresses deep gratitude for the Colorado Avalanche Information Center (CAIC), San Juan County Search and Rescue, and both the towns of Silverton and Eagle.

“There aren’t enough words to say thank you to Eagle, the Colorado beer community, and beyond,” Amanda Jessen says. “We’re managing this crisis and our grief as best we know how, and deeply appreciate the grace, space, and support.”

Bonfire Brewing is working with the Town of Eagle to livestream a charitable concert and memorial service for Andy, Adam, and Seth on February 28. More details will be announced later this week.

The Bonfire Brewing team and Jessen family do not have additional comments at this time. Please direct all media inquiries to Emily Hutto at coop@radcraftbeer.com.

Bonfire Brewing Expands Capacity; Announces 2020 Milestones

Gather ‘round for Bonfire Brewing’s 2020 Year in Review— beer (slushie) updates, patio + production expansions, and COVID pivots in Eagle, Colorado

Bonfire Brewing owners Andy and Amanda Jessen

Bonfire Brewing owners Andy and Amanda Jessen

EAGLE, CO— Bonfire Brewing is poised for growth going into 2021. The Eagle Valley brewery turned ten in 2020 among several other community milestones. Gather ‘round for Bonfire Brewing’s 2020 Year in Review.

In 2020, Bonfire Brewing produced just under 3500 barrels of beer, equating to more than one million cans. The brewery is wrapping up installation of an expansion in capacity and improvements to existing equipment. These include an upgraded glycol chiller system, the addition of 1600 barrels of fermentation capacity, equipment to facilitate the packaging of barrel aged beers, and the ability to package beer in 16-ounce cans.

Bonfire revamped its draft system that now sports 25 beer lines this year, and added the now famous rotating beer slushies to the menu. Tasting room additions in 2020 also include a partnership with the Roaming Gourmet food truck, and a heated tent the size of a city block for winter to help offset COVID-related capacity restrictions.

Bonfire continued support of local non-profits with product and financial donations, including another record Mug Club auction— which this year, topped $8,500. The mug purchase benefited the Vail Veterans Foundation and Olivia’s Fund.

Bonfire’s patio expansion project is an ongoing one that gained more than 600 square feet of new seating in spring with employee-built Adirondack chairs to boot.

More accolades rolled in for the brewery in 2020, including three Best of Vail awards and medals in the Best of Craft Beer Awards with a gold for WtFO DIPA, and in the “Beer Wars” competition with a Silver for the Rope Drop Hazy IPA. Bonfire is also the proud new recipient of Eagle’s “WassailMeister” title

Bonfire maintained its Actively Green Business certification, introduced composting to the tasting room, adopted and maintained five miles of the Haymaker mountain bike trail, and continued to make strides in sustainability and efficiency throughout operations this year.

In November of 2020, Bonfire Brewing celebrated a decade of business in downtown Eagle with a week of throwback beer releases, specialty slushies, and an anniversary Quadrupel Brown Ale aged in Laws Whiskey House barrels.

In the wake of Coronavirus, the Bonfire team developed and grew a popular contactless pick-up service and digital ordering system at the tasting room.

Most importantly for Bonfire in 2020, the company retained 100 percent of their employees amid the impacts resulting from the global pandemic. “We fully employed everyone throughout the year by pivoting and adapting to every obstacle thrown our way,” says owner Andy Jessen. “[I]t took years to put this talented team together, and one of our biggest fears at the outset of the pandemic was the chance we might lose that. Being able to keep the team intact is something we’re very grateful for.”

Also in response to the pandemic, Bonfire created the BonFamily t-shirt that features all 16 employees, for which all proceeds directly benefited staff. “We couldn’t have done it without the people that make up the BonFamily, and that includes our customers near and far,” adds owner Amanda Jessen.

Bonfire Brewing Celebrates 10th Anniversary with a Week of Throwback Beers and Live Music

Bonfire Brewing in Eagle, Colorado Celebrates 10 Years

Menu Board (1).jpg

EAGLE, CO— It’s time to “Gather ‘round” to celebrate a decade of Bonfire Brewing beers. From November 8-14th, the downtown Eagle brewery will release throwback beers and specialty slushies, host live music, and unveil the limited edition 10th anniversary Demshitz Quadruple Brown Ale. Events have been deliberately scheduled throughout the week to avoid crowding and to permit ample space for social distancing measures.

In its ten years, Bonfire has become an Eagle institution committed to limiting their environmental impact, and well known for their deep involvement in the community. They are home to some of the Vail Valley’s best live music offerings, most notably at the annual Bonfire Block Party.

In anticipation of this occasion, Bonfire procured Bourbon barrels from Laws Whiskey House, in which they’ve been aging the Quadruple Brown Ale. This 10th anniversary ale pays high gravity homage to Bonfire’s first recipe on the original opening beer board, Demshitz Brown Ale.

Join the BonFamily in November for their 10th anniversary week!

Sunday, November 8th - Limited Edition Anniversary Glass release, Anniversary Chalkboard Reveal

Monday, 9th - Throwback beer release #1

Tuesday, 10th - Throwback beer release #2, Guess Your Flight Night -- Guess your flight and it’s free!

Wednesday, 11th - Specialty Slush release #1

Thursday, 12th - Throwback beer release #3, Brew Tours at Bonfire production facility, and live music from Lance Boyle and the Red Bottom Boys 6-9pm

Friday, 13th - Specialty Slush release #2, Throwback beer release #4, and live music from The Evolution 6-9pm

Saturday, 14th - Annual Mug Club Auction, live music from Hardscrabble  6-9pm, 10th Anniversary Bottle Release + Quad Brown release on draft with collectors glass, and prize drawing for a YETI 45L Hard Cooler filled with Bonfire goodies

Husband and wife team Andy and Amanda Jessen have owned and operated Bonfire from day one. “Ten years has certainly flown by,” notes Andy, “and it feels good to hit the milestone, especially with the challenges we’re all currently facing.”

“We’re more invested in, and thankful for, our community than ever,” Amanda adds. “Ten years of beer has led to a lot of great conversations, friendships, and lessons. We can’t wait to see what the next ten bring.”

Bonfire Brewing Continues Patio Expansion Project

Bonfire Brewing’s continued patio expansion to increase seating and entertainment space for customers this summer in anticipation of social distancing requirements.

IMG_20200508_110824.jpg

EAGLE, CO— Bonfire Brewing broke even more ground on its continued patio expansion last week to increase seating and entertainment space for customers this summer. Bonfire is working closely with local partners to execute this project during uncertain times.

The new additions to Bonfire’s award-winning patio include fresh concrete complete with sleeves for removable fence posts, adding an additional 500 square feet of safe, level, and licensed outdoor space for customers to enjoy Bonfire beers. Not to mention this upgrade means there will always be a shady spot for refuge from the Colorado sun, no matter the time of day.

Bonfire has always been deeply ingrained in the Eagle community, and this expansion is no exception. The brewery’s landlord manned a Skid-Steer that he owns to help haul concrete and level dirt, and a local contractor offered Bonfire an exceptional price on concrete so they could execute the project as inexpensively as possible. The Town of Eagle might be on a spending freeze in response to COVID-19, however they waived the permit and review fees, and provided technical support to help facilitate the project.

“One of the primary motivations for launching this project is to open up more outdoor customer areas in anticipation of continued distancing requirements, if and when we are permitted to reopen for on-premise service,” says Bonfire Co-Owner Andy Jessen. “It was always part of the original vision for the patio expansion, and now seemed like the perfect time to go for it.”

Without bar hours to staff, Bonfire team members have been working on an array of projects to update the tasting room, this patio work included. While starting the demo work, the team uncovered a small piece of Eagle history— a portion of the original Town of Eagle sidewalk in pristine condition. It sits below the grade of the building pad, likely covered up in the 1960’s or 70’s.

The Bonfire crew also saved the hops in the planter boxes that have been growing on Second Street since the brewery’s first summer of business in 2011, and will replant them in an expanded urban hop farm at the tap room this growing season. They are also rebuilding the planter box for the signature pine tree growing in front of the brewery in downtown Eagle. The Bonfire team also has exciting plans for expanded bike parking, and fun ideas for the first round of furnishings in the new space— stay tuned on their social media channels for updates as the project continues.

Bonfire Block Party Postponed to August

The brewery and its event partner Optimum Events are working to keep the original band lineup and all intended weekend plans intact.

blockpartyrp2019-59.jpg

EAGLE, CO– Due to worldwide uncertainty from the COVID-19 pandemic, and to ensure the safety of guests, artists, vendors, and the Eagle County community, Bonfire Brewing and Optimum Events announced today that the 2020 Bonfire Block Party will be postponed to the last weekend in August.

2020 marks the eighth annual Bonfire Block Party, three-time winner of the Best of Vail's Best Summer Festival title. Originally slated for June 12-14 with its most ambitious lineup yet, the new dates for this community event are August 28-30. Eagle, Colorado’s annual Outside Fest that takes place in tandem with Block Party is also postponed to these dates.

A refund process will be available via the Bonfire Block Party website within the next week, for current ticket holders unable to attend the August dates. Tickets purchased for the original June dates will be applied to the new August dates with no further action needed.

The brewery and its event partner Optimum Events are working to keep the original band lineup and all intended weekend plans intact. They will make announcements accordingly at a later time, and continue to prioritize public health over good times as challenging as this reality may be.

“With circumstances far out of our control, we're more grateful to the Town of Eagle, our ticket buyers, the bands, and our partners than ever before,” says Bonfire co-owner Amanda Jessen.  “Over the last few weeks, keeping the Bonfire family safe and together has been our top priority, and we’re relieved that that has been possible so far,” Jessen continued. “With the announcement of the postponed dates, we’re excited to all have something to look forward to, and ready to bring our community the best Bonfire Block Party yet, circumstances permitting. Beer in the street may never taste so good,” she concludes.

Live music tours, events, and festivals all over the world have been cancelled or postponed due to the continuing safety concerns as a result of the pandemic. “The music industry, and every business type associated with it, has been absolutely decimated by this crisis,” notes Optimum Events owner Ted Wenninger. “We’re driven to keep the Bonfire Block Party going not only for the community here in Eagle, but also for all the artists, vendors, and staff that have seen their livelihoods disappear.”

A portion of all Bonfire Block Party proceeds benefit Eagle County nonprofit partner, The Cycle Effect. For more information and to purchase tickets online, visit www.bonfireblockparty.com.

Bonfire Brewing Releases Good Boy Peanut Butter Porter

The name, “Good Boy,” is a nod to Bonfire’s association with all things dogs, and the common use of peanut butter as a puppy training reward.

Good-boy_PB-Porter.jpg

EAGLE, CO— Bonfire Brewing canned a new beer from the Community Creator Series last week. Good Boy Peanut Butter Porter is available locally in canned 12 oz. 6-packs this week, followed by state-wide shipments in early January. Following strong positive feedback from its tap room customers, Bonfire plans to produce and package the beer through March 2020.

The base recipe of this new beer was inspired by their popular Tent Pole Vanilla Porter— Bonfire’s brewers upped the chocolate malt and added peanut butter flavoring resulting in a rich and tasty cold-weather treat. The name, “Good Boy,” is a nod to Bonfire’s association with all things dogs, and the common use of peanut butter as a puppy training reward.

Earlier this year, Bonfire launched the Community Creator Series of limited release beers with Après-Cot, followed by Pink-I Raspberry IPA, and GrapepHruit Kettle Sour IPA.

A nitro version of Good Boy will be available at Bonfire in weeks to come.

EAGLE, CO— Bonfire Brewing graces Colorado with a spring surprise from the Vail Valley. Fueled by the inspiration of their community and power of a new automated labeler, the brewery began brewing, packaging and distributing a line of new limited-release beers as part of their new Community Creator Series last month.

Après-Cot is available in 6 packs of 12 oz. cans at Bonfire’s tasting room and select local accounts now, with limited statewide shipments by the end of May and through the summer.

Following the release of Après-Cot, Bonfire Brewing plans to continue the Community Creator series with the release of Pink-I Raspberry IPA, followed in the fall by GrapepHruit Kettle Sour IPA, and the return of the Rope Drop Hazy IPA in 12 oz. for a limited time. EAGLE, CO— Bonfire Brewing is proud to celebrate the opening of Eagle Colorado’s River Park Project. Sponsored in part by Bonfire Brewing, The Eagle Whitewater Park is set to officially open following a ribbon cutting ceremony during Memorial Day Weekend, just days before the Bonfire Block Party, an annual three-day music and street festival put on by the brewery and Optimum Events, in downtown Eagle. Even with Eagle River flows just beginning to rise, whitewater enthusiasts are already surfing the newly installed features, which range from beginner to advanced.

Bonfire Brewing is a Class IV sponsor for the park, and made one of the first private donations to the project that includes four world-class whitewater features and an adjacent park area on the north side of the Eagle River. Bonfire’s contribution supports ongoing work to construct additional amenities and secures the naming rights for the Bonfire Brewing Fire Pit, that will serve as a central hub for the park.

The Eagle River Park is located along the Eagle River near the Eagle County Fair and Rodeo Grounds and a short walk from Bonfire Brewing across the river. The project was one of the first initiatives that Bonfire Brewing Owner & Co-Founder, Andy Jessen worked on as a member of Eagle’s Board of Trustees when he was elected in 2014.

For more information about The Eagle River Park project, visit eagleoutside.com/riverpark. If you would like more information about Bonfire Brewing’s local involvement, contact Emily Hutto at coop@radcraftbeer.com.

Bonfire Brewing Patio Expansion Now Complete

Prepare for the Vail Valley’s sun-filled spring days with the completed construction of Bonfire’s newly-expanded tasting room patio.

Resized_20190202_175436_697.jpeg

EAGLE, CO— Bonfire Brewing prepares for the Vail Valley’s sun-filled spring days with the completed construction of their newly-expanded tasting room patio. The expansion was made possible, in part, by an amendment to the Town of Eagle’s land use regulations which passed in September, 2018 and opens for patron use beginning the first week of February.

Voted Best Patio in 2017 by Vail Daily readers, the latest expansion to Bonfire’s patio features a renovation of the previous space along with a connecting addition on the west side of the tasting room. The patio expansion increases Bonfire’s customer area by over 700 square feet. The western expansion features a garage door opening to the inside with additional bar seating lining both ends.

MVIMG_20181117_170724.jpg

“We’re excited and proud of this expansion coming to fruition. It has been in the works for quite some time and should really enhance the Bonfire experience, especially in the warmer months,” explains Bonfire co-founder, Andy Jessen. “Full utilization of our space, enhancing the entry to downtown Eagle, and hopefully bringing more people to town and our tasting room is a great accomplishment by our team, our construction partners, and town staff.”

Bonfire Brewing is formulating plans for a party this coming spring to celebrate the grand opening of the new patio. You can stay tuned to their Facebook page for details and additional updates as they apply the finishing touches to the project.

Bonfire Brewing Releases Rope Drop Hazy IPA in 12 oz. Cans

Bonfire Brewing celebrates a season in full swing with the the limited release of Rope Drop Hazy IPA, available in six packs of 12 oz. cans and on draft while supplies last.

Rope-Drop-Hazy-IPA_snow2.jpg

EAGLE, CO— Excitement grows through the slopes of the Vail Valley as Bonfire Brewing celebrates a season in full swing. Introducing Rope Drop Hazy IPA, a limited release available in six packs of 12 oz. cans and on draft while supplies last. Rope Drop will be released at the Bonfire tasting room on Monday, December 24 at 12:24pm and will gradually become available throughout its distribution footprint beginning Wednesday, December 26.

Rope Drop is Bonfire’s first canned Hazy IPA and contains huge tropical fruit and citrus notes from a combination of Citra, Mosaic, Eldorado and Ekuanot hops. These varietals, in conjunction with late boil additions and double dry hopping, provide an aroma bursting with tropical flavors of papaya, pineapple, mango, orange, and hints of fresh pine.

“Rope Drop is brewed to trigger that feeling you get when you roll up on a slope that is just opened (or just about to open) and you get to make the first giant pillowy turns down it,” explains, co-founder, Andy Jessen. “It's like winning the lottery. This release is also appropriate for the time of year as most ski resorts are getting close to 100% open and dropping all of their in-bounds ropes. Finally, it's dropping the rope on a brand new year!”

Weighing in at 6% ABV and 45 IBU, Rope Drop was fermented with London Ale yeast strain to provide a soft, yet juicy profile. Just like the perfect powder day, this hazy IPA drinks extremely smooth with very little bitterness. Made to be enjoyed with your après crew after an amazing day on the slopes.
