Uhl’s Brewing Celebrates Second Anniversary with a Duo of Barrel-Aged Beer Releases

Known for their love of barrel-aged beers, it’s only natural that Uhl’s Brewing would celebrate their anniversary weekend with a double release.

BOULDER, CO– Uhl’s Brewing is turning two in March and celebrating that accomplishment with a weekend of music, food, and barrel-aged beer releases.

Uhl’s will be hosting their anniversary weekend on Saturday, March 19 from 12-9pm and on Sunday, March 20 from 12-8pm. Festivities will include live music from The Desert Furs on Saturday from 6-8pm and Alex Mackenzie-Low of A-Mac on Sunday from 5-7pm. Additionally, Charlotte’s Lil Kitchen will be serving up Mediterranean-inspired fare on Saturday and Kingcomo’s Quesadillas will be there Sunday serving up creative, cheesy snacks. The brewery will release their anniversary beer, Barrel Aged Big Mole Stout, and a rum barrel-aged Belgian Quadrupel named What Did We Do?

Uhl’s Barrel Aged Big Mole Stout is brewed with a laundry list of exotic ingredients, including Ecuadorian cacao nibs, Tahitian and Madagascar Bourbon vanilla beans, Vietnamese and Indonesian cinnamon, and ancho chili peppers from south of the border. Every batch is brewed with slight tweaks on the spice levels, adjusted by the owner Aaron Uhl, to bring out the best flavor every time. Big Mole’s creation stemmed from an award-winning homebrew recipe, inspired by some of the best spiced beer makers in the world, Perennial Artisan Ales, Prairie Artisan Ales and Cigar City. Specifically, Aaron took flavor notes from Prairie’s Bomb! and Perennial’s Abraxas stouts to create his Barrel Aged Big Mole.

"The feedback I got on the original homebrew recipe helped me realize I just may be able to make it on a larger scale,” said Aaron. And indeed he did. Uhl’s will be releasing the Barrel Aged Big Mole, which was aged in a single 9-year-old Buffalo Trace barrel for 14 months, on the weekend of their anniversary.

Uhl’s What Did We Do? is a rum barrel-aged Belgian quadrupel that rested for 12 months in 20-year-old rum barrels from South America before getting racked on more than 50 pounds of fresh bananas, 30 pounds of raw coconut flakes, 2 pounds of Madagascar Bourbon vanilla beans and just a hint of cassia chips to round it out. The resulting flavors and aromas ignite the imagination with thoughts of hot buttered rum cakes and Bananas Foster desserts. What Did We Do? is really what you will be asking yourself, as nothing like this has ever been made on the Front Range.

Known for their love of barrel-aged beers, it’s only natural that Uhl’s would celebrate their anniversary weekend with a double release. This anniversary not only marks two years of business, but two years of business beginning in and continuing through the COVID-19 pandemic. Aaron and Uhl’s have overcome pandemic-era challenges and continue to provide the Boulder community with delicious options.

Aaron Uhl and the whole Uhl’s family want to welcome guests to celebrate their two year milestone this March. Join them for local food, good music, a special limited edition anniversary glass, and plenty of delicious beer.

BOULDER, CO— Ska Street Brewstillery, the first Colorado business of its kind, will celebrate one year in business all month long with a beer collaboration and livestream concert with Kyle Hollingsworth, a custom snowboard giveaway, an anniversary beer named 1:11 Imperial Stout, and refreshed menus.

Today, Wednesday March 3, Ska Street releases Fearless Composition IPA, a West Coast IPA single hopped with Citra, that was brewed with Kyle Hollingsworth for his birthday on March 2. The beer is available for purchase in Crowlers at Ska Street, where guests are encouraged to stock up on this limited release to watch the live stream of the sold out Kyle Hollingsworth Birthday Party feat. Kyle Hollingsworth Band this Sunday March 7 at Boulder Theatre. Purchase access to the live stream here

Ska Street Brewstillery opened on March 16 of 2020 just one hour and 11 minutes before Colorado’s first restaurant lockdown was instated. Accordingly, the brewstillery’s one year anniversary beer is called 1:11. This 18.5% Imperial Stout was barrel aged in Peach Street bourbon barrels. 1:11 will be available beginning on March 17 while supplies last.

'From our hopeful beginning the family here at Ska Street personifies the ethos of both Ska Brewing and Peach Street Distillers; and because of the grit and support of the Boulder Community we are still here and looking forward to not just 2021 but getting back to our original visions of the Brewstillery and probably with a little more character now,” says General Manager of the brewstillery Katie Nierling.

This announcement comes with the addition of Ska Street’s new lunch program, new cocktails, and change in open hours to 12 to 8pm daily. Chef Travis Messervey has jazzed up the menu with new items and brought some fan favorites like the Sweet Plantain French Toast and Mac & Cheese with caramelized onions, bacon and crawfish with toasted breadcrumbs. Fresh beers will tap throughout March. This month-long birthday celebration includes a custom snowboard giveaway, and raffles to boot.

Ska Street Brewstillery Debuts First Packaged Products: Chasing Gremlins Imperious Stout and Third Wave White Rum

BOULDER, CO— Ska Street Brewstillery, the first Colorado business of its kind, begins limited distribution today with the release of their first packaged products— Chasing Gremlins Barrel Aged Imperious Stout and Third Wave White Rum crafted by Brewstiller Damon Scott.

In the truest fashion of the Legion of Ska, Ska Street, a joint project of sister companies Ska Brewing and Peach Street Distillers, will hit the market in a big way— with a bold, 18.5% ABV beer and an inspired spirit that showcase Scott’s robust brewing and distilling background. Scott received his MSc degree in Brewing and Distilling from Heriot-Watt University, and worked as the Technical Brewing Projects manager of the Brewers Association with a decade of brewery production and management in between.

“This is the guy we put in place to execute everything we’ve learned in 40 collective years of experience in brewing and distilling,” says Ska Brewing CEO and Co-Founder Dave Thibodeau. “We’re proud to showcase his unique skill set and the facility we’ve built around him with the release of a new product from both sides of Ska Street.”

Chasing Gremlins Imperious Stout was aged at Ska Street in a Peach Street Colorado Straight Bourbon 5 Year Single Barrel, with added maraschino cherries and vanilla to “layer in flavors like you would a cocktail,” Scott explains. Chasing Gremlins connects the dots between the brewing and distilling side of what Ska Street does, Scott says. “At 37 proof, it’s almost a spirit in itself!”

Along with Chasing Gremlins comes Third Wave White Rum, distilled from 100% organic cane sugar. Tasting notes include tropical fruit, pineapple, and banana esters, with a hint of vanilla sweetness. Third Wave is Scott’s first contribution to the Peach Street family of spirits, which up until now has not included rum.

“Traditionally rum has a lot of mixed culture fermentation, which offers a chance for us to use our super traditional copper, alembic pot still,” Scott says. “We picked specific yeasts isolated from rum fermentations known to produce esters and more fruity flavors, and our still allowed us to retain as much of that character as possible.”

Third Wave Rum bottles and Chasing Gremlins Imperious Stout bombers will be available this week across Colorado. The beer and spirit will be self-distributed by Ska Street in Boulder and Palisade, and by Ska Distributing in Durango. Winter Craft Celebrates Independence in Year Four

Joining the movement to help consumers understand which craft breweries are independent, WCBF only accepting independently operated brewers.

Joining the movement to help consumers understand which craft breweries are independent, WCBF only accepting independently operated brewers.

On March 3, 2018 ROTR Events will be celebrating the 4th annual Winter Craft Beer Festival (WCBF) here in Boulder. The event will take place again at the 29th Street mall in Boulder in the covered and heated portion of the underground parking structure. Last year Winter Craft boasted 50 breweries from eight states in attendance and the organizers are predicting a similar lineup to last year’s, with one twist. “The world of craft has become murky and confusing. So we will only be inviting independent brewers to this year’s fest, says co-founder Ross Bowdey. We don’t care how big the brewery is or where they come from, but we want to help the independent brewers continue to grow. Our attendees will leave knowing the breweries who attended are some of the best independent breweries in Colorado and beyond.” The event will also include food trucks, live music and many other fun surprises.

Ross Bowdey and Trevor Rhodes started the festival back in 2015 to celebrate the different styles of craft beer that show up in the winter months. They chose to host it in their hometown Boulder, Colorado as they felt it had the space for a larger style festival and has proven to be a craft beer mecca. “Beer festivals can be a great way to introduce all levels of beer drinkers to new things happening in the industry.” says co-founder Ross Bowdey. “*Beginner drinkers* have an opportunity to taste lesser known styles like saisons, sours or even tea infused beer. They get to discover what a large spectrum of beer styles exist today. The “beer nerds” will have a chance to try new styles from some of their favorite breweries and to figure out which up and coming taprooms to fill their growlers at this winter season.”

The festival raises funds for a local nonprofit, Community Cycles. Through the partnership last year they were able to raise over $4,000 for this great organization and hope to double that in 2018. WCBF has also had a great relationship with our premier sponsors, Hazel’s Beverage World in Boulder and KBCO radio, since the very beginning. “One of our main goals in starting the event was to create a space where brewers, sponsors, vendors, food trucks, our nonprofit partner, our venue and our attendees all leave the day feeling that they won. A major part of Craft Beer’s DNA is community and we want this to be a great extension of creating that community.”

WCBF has multiple levels of ticketing for the event. General admission gets you four hours of unlimited two-ounce samples of all the beers and ciders. VIP entry gets you in an hour early and this year they will get exclusive access to rare beers from 20+ of the brewers in attendance. They also have a $5 entry for designated drivers to encourage responsible drinking. “One of the reasons we love hosting WCBF at 29th street is its central location. When the festival ends at 5pm you don’t have to call it a night. People can keep the fun going at the nearby restaurants and shops that are all within walking distance.”

The lineup of brewers at WCBF promises to be the best ever as they bring in new and old independent brewers from around Colorado and across the country. The current lineup boasts 45 breweries from eight states accounting for 183 GABF medals. Melvin, Surly & New Holland are some of the out of state additions this year, with great Colorado stalwarts like Left Hand, Odell & Great Divide. “There is no better way to spend a Saturday afternoon in Boulder”, says Bowdey, “Amazing beer, people, music, and food, all for a good cause. This fourth year is not to be missed.”

If you would like more information on Winter Craft Beer Festival, contact Ross Bowdey at 303.748.3478 or ross@wintercraftbeerfestival.com.
