SAN DIEGO, CA— Karl Strauss Brewing Company and Taylor Guitars are celebrating the arrival of ReGreen Brut IPA with a Release Party on Friday, April 26th at the Karl Strauss Tasting Room. Not only is this the first opportunity to taste the beer, but the event will also feature appearances from Bob Taylor, Karl Strauss Brewmaster of R&D Paul Segura, and live performances by Birdy Bardot and The Midnight Pine.

ReGreen Brut IPA is part of an annual, rotational IPA series brewed in collaboration with Taylor Guitars to raise awareness for local environmental initiatives. These beers aim to “ReGreen” the community and partner with organizations that aid in these worthy causes. This year’s edition is brewed in support of local non-profit Friends of Balboa Park and their Trees to Treasures program, which helps to maintain the precious tree canopy in Balboa Park.

“We are tremendously grateful to Karl Strauss and Taylor Guitars for their continued partnership with Friends of Balboa Park to support their mission of giving back to local environmental causes. There is nothing more ‘San Diego’ than craft beer and Balboa Park, so putting those two iconic things together to create a unique craft brew and support local trees is a wonderful cause we hope everyone can get behind.” — Friends of Balboa Park Executive Director, John Bolthouse.

Thirsty Monk Debuts First of Several Crooked Stave Collaborations, BBR IPA

The first of several Thirsty Monk and Crooked Stave collaborations will tap in Denver in coming weeks and months.

ThirstyMonk+CrookedStave-2.jpg

DENVER, CO— Thirsty Monk, brewer of Belgian-Rooted Modern Ales and operator of world-recognized craft beer and craft cocktail bars, will tap the first of several collaboration beers with Crooked Stave Artisan Beer Project this week. This collaboration, the Brett Brut Rose IPA otherwise known as BBR IPA, is available on draft only while supplies last at Thirsty Monk’s Denver location.

When Crooked Stave owner and founder Chad Yakobson visited Thirsty Monk to taste beers before this collaboration, the Brut IPA was his favorite. Thirsty Monk’s Head Brewer Brian Grace  worked at Crooked Stave as Head Brewer for several years, and he’s excited about the opportunity to continue to work with Yakobson and crew.

“We talked about the Brut style and how we both thought that using German hops instead of the typical IPA hops that people are using would lend a more wine-like aroma and make the style more along the lines of what we like to drink,” Grace says. “The hibiscus and rose petals were something that Chad and I have talked about using over the years when I worked at Crooked Stave so we went for it! These additions, along with Hallertau Blanc, Huell Melon, Mandarina Bavaria, Centennial and Amarillo give the beer a pink hue and floral, citrus and berry-like aromas. Naturally, any collaboration with Crooked Stave should include Brettanomyces…. the conversations continued from there and this beer was born.”

BBR is the first of several Thirsty Monk and Crooked Stave collaborations to tap in Denver in coming weeks and months.

A Beer For The Times: Ska Brewing Presents Moral Panic Brut IPA

This might just be Colorado’s first year-round canned Brut IPA.

DURANGO, CO— Moral Panic, a Brut IPA from Ska Brewing, debuts at the brewery in cans this Friday, November 30 and hits the brewery distribution footprint beginning December 7. This refreshing, dry finishing IPA satisfies brewery Co-Founder and CEO Dave Thibodeau’s urge to name a beer Moral Panic and quenches palates gravitating toward this emerging trend.

“In sociology, moral panic is the process of arousing social concern over an issue, legitimate or not,” Thibodeau says. “On one hand we may be referring to Mods & Rockers, Satanism or Dungeons & Dragons, or the Haze craze — no matter what comes of the Brut IPA style, we certainly are enjoying drinking it right now.”

Over its 23 years in business Thibodeau and crew have witnessed its evolution and ultimate subcategorization. “We’re excited about this emerging Brut category because these beers are everything we love about IPA without any lingering bitterness, which makes them super approachable.”

Ska’s Moral Panic is no exception. Galaxy and Citra hops give it a tropical nose, and at only 5.7 percent ABV, this beer is one of the lower ABV Bruts on the market. As the producer of one of the country’s original canned IPAs, Modus Hoperandi, Ska has long been an IPA house committed to crafting many different styles of India Pale Ale that you can always find on tap at the brewery’s Durango World Headquarters.

Ska’s brewers developed the Brut IPA recipe on their Mod pilot system, and they are excited to elevate it to a larger-scale, packaged brew. This is Ska’s first year-round packaged beer to hit all its markets since the release of Rue B. Soho. It might just be Colorado’s first year-round canned Brut IPA, too.

Find Moral Panic Brut IPA in canned, 12 oz. 6-packs and select draft accounts in all twelve of Ska’s distribution states. Contact Emily Hutto at coop@radcraftbeer.com if you’d like more information about the beer, the beer style, or Ska Brewing.
