Crisp, Cold Pale By Ska Brewing Hits Shelves Year-Round

Ska Brewing Cold Pale will be added to a revamped winter mix pack that also includes Euphoria Pale Ale, Modus Hoperandi, and Ska Lager.

DURANGO, CO— Ska Brewing combined the best of all the beer worlds in their latest release, Cold Pale. This incredibly crushable Pale Ale is crisp and refreshing, and now available year-round.

“Pale Ale is my litmus test when I go to a brewery,” says Ska Brewing Co-Founder and CEO Dave Thibodeau, “so when we went to create a mainstay Pale Ale at Ska, especially because we don’t already have this style available all year, we did a lot of research and development to get the hop profile exactly where we wanted it to be. A lot of people appreciate hops but don’t want a super bitter beer, and they also don’t want a 6 to 8% IPA all the time. At Ska we like to have more than one beer in a sitting, so it seemed natural to make something more drinkable.”

The result is Cold Pale— subtle enough for people who prefer lagers over hoppy beers, and unique in hop profile to satiate those who do.

This new style category of Cold IPA and Pale Ale is brewed with lager yeast strains at cold temperatures. They’re crisp like lagers with much less ester-y aroma that’s produced by ale yeast. Cold Pale is the result of years of experimentation with hopping schedules— from kettle to early fermentation to dry hopping. Ska’s brewing team added Tettnang and Columbus hops as early fermentation additions that through biotransformation yield melon and grape flavors and aromas that these spicy, citrus-y hops wouldn’t typically produce with ale yeast. It’s then dry hopped with classic C hops (Cascade, Chinook, and Centennial) that layer on pine and fresh citrus notes. It’s a crispy, easy drinker that weighs in at 5.5 percent ABV.

Cold Pale joins Ska’s canned beer lineup this fall alongside Ska’s new Mexican-style Cold IPA, another lager yeast fermented ale recipe made with the same Mexico City-sourced yeast strain as Mexican Logger as well as agave and flaked blue maize.

Cold Pale is available in canned 6-packs across Ska’s national distribution footprint, and on tap now at the brewery World Headquarters in Durango, Colorado. This beer will also be added to a revamped winter mix pack that also includes Euphoria Pale Ale, Modus Hoperandi, and Ska Lager.

Ska Brewing Recognized by Governor Polis and OEDIT for Excellence in Exporting

The Excellence in Exporting Award recognizes the essential role that exports play in the state’s economy— with $8.3 billion in products exported in 2020.

DURANGO, CO— In May on World Trade Day, the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade (OEDIT) gave Ska Brewing an honorable mention in the Governor’s Awards for Excellence in Exporting

The Excellence in Exporting Award recognizes the essential role that exports play in the state’s economy— with $8.3 billion in products exported in 2020— by highlighting noteworthy export activity around the state. In order to be eligible for these prestigious awards, good standing Colorado-headquartered companies must have exported products or services outside of the state domestically and/or internationally for two years or more. As the largest regional brewery in the Four Corners, Ska exports its packaged beers to ten United States, as well as the UK, Ireland, Japan, and Sweden.

“Beyond just sending our product, exporting requires thoughtful labor practices and relationship building,” says Arlo Grammatica, Ska’s Barroom Hero. “This mention is a big honor!”

Ska Brewing Announces Brand Refresh; Rolls Out New Cans

Since Ska Brewing launched its brand 25 years ago, the comic book has always represented the company’s core values and mission.

Ska-AllCan-Lineup2019.jpg

DURANGO, CO— Fresh renditions of Ska Brewing Modus Hoperandi, Modus Mandarina, True Blonde Ale, Rue B. Soho, and Pink Vapor Stew cans are now hitting shelves across Ska’s distribution footprint as part of the company’s 2020 brand refresh.

Since Ska Brewing launched its brand 25 years ago, the comic book has always represented the company’s core values and mission. The company slogan characters brewing beers with character has come to life on Ska’s packaged brands, each can representing a different snippet of that original comic book story… until The Hazy IPA came along.

When Ska debuted its first hazy beer in a can in 2019, they designed the artwork without a character or a punny name associated with the beer style as they have other year-round brands. Instead the artwork pops with bold colors and Ska’s trademark checkerboard stripe— a nod to the 2 Tone wave of Ska music— that wraps the can. These comic book elements ultimately inspired Ska’s entire can refresh, and can also be found on the design of Ska’s new canned seltzer line.

Consistent with much of Ska’s other branding, the signature checkerboard stripe is included on each new can. While new cans will not feature characters from comic books, they will retain classic comic book elements such as the blamo and bold colors to really stand out on shelves. The new look will help provide a consistent and recognizable look across Ska’s family of brands.

“We’ll never “rebrand” altogether because we feel branding is an evolution,” says Ska Brewing co-founder and CEO Dave Thibodeau. “We’ve been changing our brand since day one, but we’ll never stray too far from what it means to be Ska.”

Find the same great Modus Hoperandi, Modus Mandarina, True Blonde Ale, Rue B. Soho, and Pink Vapor Stew recipes in new cans wherever you buy Ska beer. The brewery will announce more can artwork updates in coming months.

Ska Brewing Welcomes Autumn With Euphoria Cans

“Euphoria comes in perfect time for the Broncos season. We’re officially ready for football now.”

IMG_6280.JPG

DURANGO, CO— Ska Brewing’s seasonal Euphoria Pale Ale returns to the brewery’s World Headquarters this Thursday during Ska-BQ, and hits shelves in thirteen states next week. This highly anticipated beer release serves as Durango’s unofficial kickoff into winter.

Euphoria’s big malt backbone meets caramel sweetness and just a touch of chocolate, with epic grapefruit hop aroma and flavor provided by a huge dry hop addition that all comes together to make it a perfect beer for those long lift rides.

Both known as craft creators in their respective industries, Ska Brewing and Venture Snowboards began a partnership about 15 years ago. “Ska takes the same approach in crafting their beer, and we're both based in the San Juan Mountains, so teaming up seemed like a natural. Euphoria is named after Venture’s powder board - you get the same heady feeling drinking it as you do floating through the deep stuff on a blower powder day,” explains Lisa Branner from Venture.

“Euphoria comes in perfect time for the Broncos season,” says Ska Brewing’s Sales and Marketing Director Kristen Muraro. “We’re officially ready for football now.”

Celebrate the upcoming season with Ska Brewing this Thursday, September 12 at Ska-BQ the brewery’s World Headquarters at 5pm. Ska and Venture Snowboards will debut this year’s custom ska-themed snowboard and host a Euphoria celebration in November— more information will soon be available about this event at skabrewing.com.

Find Euphoria in 6-packs in all thirteen of Ska’s distribution states through colder months. Contact Emily Hutto at coop@radcraftbeer.com with any more questions about this beer’s backstory or availability.

Skagua cans will be available in three flavors: Grapefruit, Lemon, and Watermelon.

IMG_3971.JPG

DURANGO, CO— Skagua, Ska Brewing’s house-made sparkling water, is hitting cans for the first time. This non-alcoholic, Ska Tasting Room favorite will be available locally in three flavor varieties beginning on July 19.

Skagua has been a staple beverage at Ska for more than a decade now. “A can in our hands has become second nature,” says Ska’s co-founder and CEO Dave Thibodeau. “A while ago we realized we needed non-alcoholic bubbles to start the day, and we’ve had Skagua on tap at our World Headquarters since. Grapefruit and Lemon especially have become favorites of Durango’s families searching for a healthy, hydrating alternative to sugary carbonated drinks.”

Skagua cans will be available in three flavors: Grapefruit, Lemon, and Watermelon. Grapefruit and Lemon are lightly sweetened with only 25 calories per serving. Watermelon Skagua is entirely sugar-free and has zero calories. All Skaguas are gluten-free and made with non-GMO ingredients.

Beginning Friday, Skagua will be available in canned 6-packs for purchase at Ska’s World Headquarters and local establishments such as Nature’s Oasis. Individual cans of Skagua can also be found on restaurant menus in the Durango area.

Ska Brewing and Peach Street Distillers Launch Boomerang Barrel Program

The first of Ska Brewing and Peach Street Distillers’ Boomerang series beers, BarrelAged Imperial Stout Barrel No. 394, is now available at Animas Wine & Spirits.

IMG_20190416_111106[2].jpg

DURANGO, CO— The first of Ska Brewing and Peach Street Distillers’ Boomerang series beers, Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout Barrel No. 394, is now available at Animas Wine & Spirits. The beer, a 17% ABV Imperial Stout, was aged in a Peach Street Distillers whiskey barrel hand selected by the owners of Animas Wine & Spirits as part of the brewery and distillery’s new small-batch program.

The new Boomerang series is one more way for sister companies Ska Brewing and Peach Street Distillers to collaborate with one another. Within this series the companies plan to invite key accounts to choose their own barrels at Peach Street for which specialty beers will age, to be served exclusively for sale at each respective business. “This is a great opportunity to do something unique in the craft world, where people from both productions teams can collaborate on styles and flavors to match the barrel character to the beer they will be filled with,” says Peach Street Director of Sales Dustin LeMoine. “Buyers at exceptional liquor stores know their customers better than anyone, and with their input we can put together a program that combines craft interests from all over the palate, keeps things Colorado local from grain to glass (and shelf), and tastes pretty damn amazing… Why wouldn't we?”

The first of the Boomerang Series beers is Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout Barrel No. 394, a 17% ABV Imperial Stout. This is the highest ABV beer that Ska Brewing has brewed in almost 24 years of business.

Currently in the works for the Boomerang program are a prickly pear sour ale in Peach Street Anjeo-aged Dagave Gold barrels, several twists on giant imperial stouts in various Whiskey barrels, an Imperial Maple Brown. “This is just the beginning,” LeMoine adds. “Ska Brewing and Peach Street Distillers are focused on elevating the game of barrel aging in Colorado.”

At 5% ABV Brewstomper is a crisp, refreshing golden ale designed to be enjoyed with music and friends, the type of beer that doesn’t dominate the conversation, it simply enhances it. While the hops and malt work quietly backstage without bravado, the show certainly couldn’t go on without them.

Ska Brewing Celebrates 20th Year of Mexican Logger

For twenty years now, this beer’s release has served as Durango’s unofficial kickoff into springtime.

12973336_1124006654287486_4248535293380193990_o.jpg

DURANGO, CO— The always anticipated release of Ska Brewing Mexican Logger is possibly premature with Purgatory Mountain under 10 feet of snow, but here regardless. For twenty years now, this beer’s release has served as Durango’s unofficial kickoff into springtime.

Mexican Logger was Ska’s first session beer when the recipe debuted in 1999. It became Colorado’s first craft lager in a can in 2011, and then won back-to-back Great American Beer Festival® awards in the International Style Pilsner category in 2015 and 2016.

Ska Mexican Logger is crisp, clean, and refreshing — made for hot afternoons with a side of lime. The beer is a crushable 5 percent ABV, and brewed with a lager yeast strain from Mexico City. That same yeast strain now ferments Ska’s Rue B. Soho Grapefruit Lager as well.

Find Mexican Logger on tap and available to-go at Ska Brewing on Wednesday, March 20. Durango-based “Western garage” band Lawn Chair Kings will serenade the tasting room with skank-inducing rock-country-punk hybrid tunes at 5pm.

Mexican Logger will be available through spring and summer in canned 6-packs across Colorado, Arizona, Southern California, Hawaii, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Utah.

For more information about Ska Brewing or its beloved Mexican Logger, contact Emily Hutto at coop@radcraftbeer.com

Ska Brewing Launches Distribution in Oklahoma

Ska Brewing beers are now available in the Oklahoma via Boardwalk Distribution, Oklahoma’s locally owned and operated independent craft distribution house.

SkaOK.jpg

DURANGO, CO— Ska Brewing beers are now available in Oklahoma via Boardwalk Distribution, Oklahoma’s locally owned and operated independent craft distribution house. This new market brings the brewery’s state distribution count to thirteen.

Cans and drafts of True Blonde Ale, Rue B Soho, Euphoria, Modus Hoperandi, Modus Mandarina, Pink Vapor Stew, and Ska’s latest year-round release Moral Panic hit Oklahoma this week, as did Ska’s Mixed- Up and Hoptions IPA 12-packs. Seasonals like Mexican Logger will be available in Oklahoma as well.

"Boardwalk Distribution is more than excited to team up with Ska Brewing for distribution across the state of Oklahoma,” says Freddy Lamport Vice President of Boardwalk’s Beer Division. “Ska Brewing has been one of those amazing breweries that has always been outside the Okie consumer's hands... well not any more! We believe their brand, mantra and style is in perfect alignment with our core beliefs and are very happy to welcome them to our portfolio.”

Ska’s distribution in the Sooner State is a long time coming for brewery Co-Owner and Oklahoma native Matt Vincent. “The laws in the state allow better opportunities for good, cold beer to be imported into it... Plus my mom is sick of driving to Kansas to buy Ska beer.”

In January, members of the Ska Brewing crew will head to Oklahoma to drink Ska beer at several launch events. More details on these shenanigans will soon be available on Ska’s website and social media channels.

Ska Brewing distributes its award-winning beers in thirteen states— Colorado, Arizona, Southern California, Hawaii, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, Utah, and now Oklahoma.
