Murphy & Rude Malting Co. Launches Online Craft Malt Sales
The new GrainStore on Murphy & Rude’s website offers 30 different malted grains that until now have only been available for sale in bulk to brewers and distillers.
NATIONAL— Craft malt for homebrewers is now available for online order and direct shipping through Charlottesville, Virginia-based Murphy & Rude Malting Co.
The new GrainStore on Murphy & Rude’s website (murphyrudemalting.com/shop) offers 30 different malted grains that until now have only been available for sale in bulk to brewers and distillers. The online portfolio includes several base barley malt styles, a spectrum of roasted malts, chit malt, wheat malt, rolled oats, corn, and spelt. All are available to order online with direct shipping by the pound or in 5lb, 10lb, and 25lb prepackaged amounts. Murphy & Rude malt can be delivered to all 50 United States.
“Homebrewers have been the early advocates of the craft malt industry; and yet due to supply chain and volume constraints, local, fresh malt is often inaccessible to them,” says Murphy & Rude Malting Co. Founder Jeff Bloem. “Online malt sales will allow us to bridge that gap and send our full portfolio of malts directly to their doorsteps.”
Commercial breweries and distilleries can still purchase Murphy & Rude malt wholesale by contacting orders@murphyrudemalting.com or 434.922.0036.
Media inquiring about Virginia’s only craft maltster can contact Emily Hutto at hutto@radcraftbeer.com.

Autumn Arrives With Lone Tree Brewing Vanilla Caramel Amber
Lone Tree Brewing Company’s fall seasonal Vanilla Caramel Amber returns in 6-packs to Colorado and Kansas.
LONE TREE, CO— It’s Vanilla Caramel Amber season at Lone Tree Brewing, where this autumnal favorite makes its return in cans for the sixth year. Look for this beer in canned 6-packs across Colorado and Kansas this season.
Originally developed on Lone Tree Founder John Winter's homebrew system, this beer’s rich caramel and vanilla flavors are created with crystal malt and Madagascar vanilla beans— and no other adjuncts either. The base beer is a traditional American Amber with a good helping of hops to balance out the sweetness of the vanilla. This cold month staple is a drinkable 6% ABV.
Find Vanilla Caramel Amber as a rotating tap at the Lone Tree tasting room and select locations this fall and winter, and in cans across the brewery footprint in Colorado and Kansas. Locate Lone Tree beer with their website beer finder.

The Brew Hut Celebrates 20 Years In Business
AURORA, CO— The Brew Hut, Aurora’s homebrew shop, is celebrating its 20th anniversary next month. The shop was founded by homebrewer Scott Newcomb, who wanted to create a one-stop shop for fellow hobbyists. “There were 14 homebrew supply shops in the area when I opened up The Brew Hut, but in order to put one recipe together I had to go to three or four of them to get all the ingredients,” Newcomb says. “That was the main purpose of The Brew Hut— to give people exactly what they needed for each brew. And to provide the best customer service.”
To-date, The Brew Hut does just that. As the largest homebrew supply shop in Colorado, it gives homebrewers exactly what they need for each brew and it’s well-known for its knowledgeable and friendly customer service. Its legacy has been carried on by current owners Kevin DeLange and Michelle Reding, who purchased The Brew Hut from Newcomb in 2002.
“When Michelle and Kevin came along, they loved the growth we’d already had. When they purchased The Brew Hut, Kevin and I sat in the back and he asked me if I were to keep the business how would I grow it? I told him I would knock out the wall next door and open a craft brewery,” Newcomb says. “They took that idea and ran with it. I couldn’t be happier that it grew the way that it did.”
Join Scott Newcomb, who is flying to Colorado from Florida where he’s currently opening a craft brewery, at The Brew Hut to celebrate its 20th anniversary on June 6 from 11am to 3pm. Guests are encouraged to bring their homemade beer, wine, cider, mead, cheese, and more to share with fellow homebrewers. They can also taste The Brew Hut’s employee homebrew showcase, purchase commemorative Brew Hut t-shirts and posters, and enjoy 20 percent off discounts on select merchandise. The Brew Hut’s anniversary party will also feature carnival games and raffle prizes, as well as homebrew demonstrations from The Fermentologists homebrew club and Aurora City Brew Club.
In honor of its sister business, Dry Dock Brewing Company is brewing The Brew Hut’s Anniversary Beer using a new, experimental hop variety from the Hallertau and Tettnang growing regions of Germany called Mandarina Bavaria. These hops create a sweet, fruity aroma with strong notes of tangerine. The Mandarina Pale Ale will tap at South Dock, located next door to The Brew Hut at 15120 E Hampden Avenue, for the anniversary party on June 6.
