SAN DIEGO, CA— Karl Strauss Brewing Company is supporting those affected by the California wildfires currently devastating the brewery’s home state through two charitable beers set to release Friday, December 21 with the proceeds to benefit relief efforts. KARL will also institute an internal Beer it Forward donation system to match employee donations for aid efforts.
On November 27, Karl Strauss Brewing Co. brewed a 7bbl batch of Resilience IPA to support the Sierra Nevada Camp Fire Relief Fund along with a 7bbl batch of Strauss Relief Brut IPA – an American Brut IPA brewed with a light malt profile along with Cascade, Simcoe, Strata, and Nelson hops to showcase piney aromatics, tropical notes and a clean, super dry finish. Proceeds from Strauss Relief Brut IPA will support the California Fire Foundation, specifically toward those impacted by the LA County fires.
Join KARL on Friday, December 21 at their main brewery and tasting room in Pacific Beach or any of their brewpubs in Southern California to show your support as they tap the two charitable beers. Purchase a pint or offer a donation to help the brewery raise proceeds for both the Sierra Nevada Camp Fire Relief Fund and the California Fire Foundation.

Fresh off San Diego Beer Week, Karl Strauss Makes $8.5K Donation to San Diego Brewers Guild
“Collabapalooza captured the collaborative spirit of the San Diego brewing community.”
SAN DIEGO, CA — Karl Strauss Brewing Company is a proud supporter of the San Diego Brewers Guild and their efforts to promote and represent local, independent craft breweries. Karl Strauss has a long history of caring for their community, and in keeping with this tradition, they are making a donation to the Guild fresh off of another successful San Diego Beer Week.
In preparation for Beer Week, KARL served as the host brewery for the annual collaboration beer release from the San Diego Brewers Guild, the Capital of Craft IPA. KARL’s team members helped sell this beer to accounts throughout the region and KARL is donating a portion of their Capital of Craft sales to the Guild.
In addition to Capital of Craft, KARL’s donation to the Guild includes a portion of the proceeds from their second annual Collabapalooza event, hosted Saturday November 10 in North Park. Collabapalooza featured more than 50 local, independent breweries and an epic beer list of one-off collaborations and rare releases.
“Collabapalooza captured the collaborative spirit of the San Diego brewing community. There was a sense of camaraderie everywhere you turned. People learning about beers, sharing stories, reminiscing with old friends and bonding with new ones… it was a really special event and we’re honored to donate a portion of the proceeds to the San Diego Brewers Guild.” – Matt Rattner, Co-Founder & President, Karl Strauss Brewing Company.
In total, Karl Strauss is donating $8,500 to the San Diego Brewers Guild.

Karl Strauss Takes Home a Bronze at World Beer Cup and a Gold at LA International Beer Competition
The medal-winning Farmhouse is a small batch beer produced at the company’s 4S Ranch satellite brewery in San Diego by Head Brewer Sean Albrecht.
San Diego, CA — The 2018 World Beer Cup® took place in Nashville, Tennessee this week, held in conjunction with the Craft Brewers Conference. The highly regarded competition is considered the largest international gathering of beers with more than 8,234 entries this year from 2,515 breweries representing 66 countries. The competition winners were announced at the awards ceremony on Thursday, May 3rd 2018, and Karl Strauss Brewing Company was awarded a bronze medal in the category of French & Belgian-Style Saison.
The medal-winning Farmhouse is a small batch beer produced at the company’s 4S Ranch satellite brewery in San Diego by Head Brewer Sean Albrecht. It was brewed in the classic saison style using traditional saison malts and yeast, and features aromas of black pepper and a subtle hoppiness that lingers through a crisp and refreshing finish.
“Winning a medal at any beer competition is exciting, but the World Beer Cup® is a whole different ballgame. When you’re competing against some of the best beers from all over the world, taking home a medal is no small feat and we are incredibly honored,” –Sean Albrecht, Head Brewer, Karl Strauss Brewing Company
The company is also celebrating a fresh gold medal win for their Two Tortugas Belgian Quad earned at the 2018 Los Angeles International Beer Competition earlier this week. Two Tortugas, first released in 2011 as a one-time holiday brew, has now racked up a total of 5 medals in beer competitions including a silver at the World Beer Cup® in 2012, and a bronze at the Great American Beer Festival in 2011. This cult classic KARL brew was brought back by popular demand after its initial release and now returns regularly as a seasonal favorite in the company’s lineup.
With the addition of these two recent medals the Karl Strauss trophy case now showcases a total of 107 medals, along with the prestigious “Mid-Size Brewing Company of the Year” award earned at the Great American Beer Festival in 2016.
The medal-winning Farmhouse will be pouring on draft at the Karl Strauss Tasting Room & Beer Garden in Pacific Beach at their upcoming Arts & Amps event on May 19th. To learn more about KARL’s lineup of award-winning beers, visit www.karlstrauss.com.

Smoke ’em if You Got ’em On Saturday February 10 at the Bierstadt Rauchbock Release
Bierstadt Lagerhaus will release its stunningly smokey Rauchbock on February 10, and some people will really dislike it.
DENVER, CO — On February 10 at noon, Bierstadt Lagerhaus releases its stunningly smokey Rauchbock at the Rauchbock Parka Party, and some people will really dislike it. These are of course the same people that whine about Islay malts, brilliant Mezcals and smelling like smoke after cooking on a campfire. These are people we at Bierstadt would rather not spend any time with so if this describes you, please stay away. If on the other hand, you enjoy all of the things mentioned above, plus barbecue and maybe even a cigar or two, you are not going to want to miss it. That and we already dis-invited sniveling whiners so the company, and the conversation should be glorious.
The party will go from noon to late and will include barbecue from the smoke masters at Owlbear, a Mezcal tasting from our friends at Finn’s Manor, and Cigar rolling from Palma. It is a celebration of all things smoked and smokey. BYO parka so you can get outside to enjoy the cigars.
Event attendance is free. Please RSVP via Eventbrite.

Beers Made By Walking and Forest Park Conservancy Announce New Hikes with Portland Crafters
Now in its sixth year, Beers Made By Walking (BMBW) returns to the Pacific Northwest with a new series of public hikes with brewers and cider makers in Portland’s Forest Park.
PORTLAND, OR— Now in its sixth year, Beers Made By Walking (BMBW) returns to the Pacific Northwest with a new series of public hikes with brewers and cider makers in Portland’s Forest Park. BMBW invites brewers to go on nature hikes and make beer inspired by plants found on the trail.
The 2017 series of hikes are organized by Forest Park Conservancy. Each hike is free and open to the public, but RSVPs are required. Hikers are accompanied by a local brewer who must create a hike-inspired beer/cider in the summer. A list of hikes and sign ups are available below.
These place-based beers serve as drinkable, landscape portraits of the trails that are walked. Tapped during special events at each respective brewery, the beer and cider proceeds are donated to the Forest Park Conservancy. The full list of beers will be published after the hikes are finalized, but you can go to the Beers Made By Walking website if you would like to see the tapping dates in advance and add them to your calendar.

ABOUT BEERS MADE BY WALKING
Beers Made By Walking (BMBW) is a program that invites people to step outside and see the place they live in a new light. We invite brewers to take nature walks and make beer inspired by the plants identified on the trail. Since 2011, we have worked with more than 100 breweries throughout the country to create over 200 place-based beers. Hiking and tasting events act as educational and fundraising programs for environmental organizations in the regions they serve. Additional info is available at beersmadebywalking.com.
