DURANGO, CO— Republic National Distributing Company announced last week the addition of Oh Hi CBD drinks to its portfolio that will take place in mid-August. This partnership will add seven states— Alaska, Colorado, Florida, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Oregon and Texas to Oh Hi’s distribution footprint.

Oh Hi CBD seltzers are available in canned 12oz. 4-packs in four flavors: Pomegranate, Lemon Lime, Ginger Basil Limeade, and Grapefruit with 20mg of CBD

RNDC is thoughtful and innovative in their approach to CBD sales,” says Jonny Radding. “We’re proud to be an early adopter of the new category of CBD beverages in one of the first national distribution houses forward thinking about cannabis drinks in their portfolio.”

Munich’s Oktoberfest is Cancelled Again, Ska Brewing German-Style Lager Returns Nonetheless

Oktoberfest lovers across the country can find this beer in six-packs of 12-ounce cans in one of Ska’s 11 distribution states while limited supplies last.

DURANGO, CO— Oktoberfest in Munich may be cancelled for the second year in a row, but Ska Brewing is here to fill the void— or at least fill pints of their award-winning German-style Lager while supplies last. This famed lager will tap at Ska’s World Headquarters in Durango on Friday, July 30.

Although the cancelling of Oktoberfest because of COVID-19 leaves a bitter taste in one’s mouth, this beer is anything but. This malt-forward, easy drinking craft lager is made with 100 percent German-sourced Munich and Vienna malts that yield amber-brown color with nutty, bready, toasty notes. It finishes clean with a neutral yeast flavor. Here’s what some of Colorado’s media outlets have to say about this beer:

“Not only did this malty brew — nutty, clean and with just a touch of rounded sweetness — manage to set itself apart in a category that already includes a wide variety of stellar examples of Vienna-style lagers, especially in Colorado, but it won gold at the Great American Beer Festival®.” – Denver Westword

“A pointed caramelized-sugar, floral, and burnt-crust nose offers a hearty swagger. The sip follows through with big but dry well-toasted bread, an earthy hop through line, and a heavily toasted light bitter malt finish.” —  Craft Beer & Brewing Magazine

The first batch of Oktoberfest that came out in a can in 2018 struck gold with the recipe at the Great American Beer Festival® in the Vienna-style Lager category. It has also been honored at the European Beer Star and The Stockholm Beer and Whiskey Festival.

Ska will kick off Oktoberfest season Friday, July 30 at 4pm at its World Headquarters, where The Container Restaurant will serve German-style brats to boot. Next week, Oktoberfest lovers across the country can find this beer in six-packs of 12-ounce cans in one of Ska’s 11 distribution states while limited supplies last.

Riverbend Malt House Adds 2-Row Pilsner Malt To Cumberland Series

Cumberland Pilsner joins the Riverbend Malt House Tennessee origin malt lineup.

ASHEVILLE, NC— Riverbend Malt House is expanding the Cumberland Series of Tennessee-grown malt offerings with a 2-Row Pilsner variety that is now available for purchase by breweries, distilleries, and homebrew supply shops in the Southeast.

The Cumberland Pilsner debut is the second malt in this series, following the Cumberland Corn Malt™ that Riverbend first released in 2019. This 2-Row Calypso selection was grown at Teeter Farm and Seed Co. in Clarksville, TN. When malted it weighs in at 2 SRM with high extract and superior diastatic powder, perfect for brewing Helles-style Lagers.

With the demand for locally grown and malted grains comes cravings for diversity of flavor, which Riverbend has been committed to exploring since its start. The addition of Cumberland Pilsner builds nuance into Riverbend’s breadth of 2 and 6-Row base malts sourced from family farms across the Southeast region.

"Our customers are interested in exploring the terroir of the South and Cumberland Pilsner offers the next step in our single origin series,” says Riverbend’s Co-Founder Brent Manning. “This variety delivers more biscuity, bread crumb flavors and sweeter aromatics when compared to our Chesapeake Pilsner released earlier this year."

For more information about the Cumberland Series, this new Pilsner variety, or any of Riverbend’s malts, contact orders@riverbendmalt.com. Please reach out to Emily Hutto at hutto@radcraftbeer.com with media inquiries.

“After many test batches leading into this release, Hazy IPA was our opportunity to try this new hop blend from BSG,” says Lone Tree Sales & Marketing Director Dennis Stack. “We like to experiment with fresh ingredients when we release seasonal beers, and HS-Zamba™ was the perfect complement to balance out this beer’s bright grain bill.”

Hazy IPA is now available across Colorado and in select locations in Kansas in canned 12 oz. 6-packs. Hop lovers can also find this beer on draft in Lone Tree’s tasting room later in July.

Riverbend Malt House Announces Expansion

New malthouse production equipment needed to meet accelerating demand for craft malt in the Southeast.

Screen Shot 2021-06-20 at 11.49.28 PM.png

ASHEVILLE, NC– Riverbend Malt House today announced the successful completion of the first batch of barley malted on its new 10-tonne Germination Kiln Vessel (GKV) unit. This state-of-the-art equipment increases the overall malthouse capacity by 40 percent, enabling Riverbend to meet growing demand for craft malt among breweries and distilleries throughout the Southeast.

“Our new unit gives us even tighter control over quality, while at the same time increasing productivity,” noted Adam Demchak, Riverbend’s VP of Engineering and Production. “And our employees love it because the cleaning and maintenance procedures are more efficient.”

The new equipment comes in response to growing consumer demand over the past 12 months. “As we emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic, it has become clear that local and quality factors are even more important in consumer decision making, and we need additional capacity to meet the resulting surge in demand for craft malt,” commented Riverbend Malt House CEO Scott Hickman.

An essential part of Riverbend’s mission is its commitment to its local partnerships with local farmers, craft brewers, and artisan spirits distillers. Consistent with this mission, Riverbend’s new equipment was designed, manufactured, and installed by American manufacturers, contractors and software developers.

Fermly and Elevation Beer Co. Collaborate on Japanese-Inspired Rice Lager

Kintsugi is a rice-based beer fermented with saké yeast and brewed with lychee fruit.

IMG_8090.jpeg

PONCHA SPRINGS, CO— Fermly, an independent lab for brewers based in Denver, is excited to announce another collaboration beer, Kintsugi, a rice lager brewed with their friends at Elevation Beer Company that tapped this week.

This unique take on a hybrid fermentation incorporates saké yeast and Elevation’s houser lager yeast strain. With a 50% jasmine rice based grain bill, the beer is a classic rice lager through and through. After fermentation, the team added lychee fruit to this lager to impart a light sweetness to support the characteristics of this solid crispy boi.

Kintsugi is inspired not only by the yeast, but also a time-honored philosophy. Originating from the Japanese pottery technique that repairs cracks with gold-dusted lacquer, it is a celebration that something is more beautiful because it has broken. “As we enter into the first summer after a pandemic, it is fitting to acknowledge the difficulties every person and business has gone through and that although it wasn’t easy, we are all better for it,” says Fermly Co-Founder Emily Wang.

Elevation Beer Co. guests can now sip Kintsugi Rice Lager on tap and purchase it in 12 oz. cans to-go while supplies last.

DURANGO, CO— In May on World Trade Day, the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade (OEDIT) gave Ska Brewing an honorable mention in the Governor’s Awards for Excellence in Exporting

The Excellence in Exporting Award recognizes the essential role that exports play in the state’s economy— with $8.3 billion in products exported in 2020— by highlighting noteworthy export activity around the state. Mainstem Malt Debuts New Flagship Malts

Now available for purchase are Mainstem Malt’s four new flagship malt varieties: Cascadia Pilsner, Cascadia White Wheat, Evergreen Pale, and Evergreen Alder Smoke.

IMG-20210524_190546_8510-237692443.jpg

WALLA WALLA, WA— Now available for purchase are Mainstem Malt’s four new flagship malt varieties: Cascadia Pilsner, Cascadia White Wheat, Evergreen Pale, and Evergreen Alder Smoke. Each of these regional blends of top grain varieties is Salmon-Safe certified and built to scale with malthouse customers in the Pacific Northwest and Alaska.

Since Mainstem’s first crop year in 2016, “we’ve been deep in the woods of malt science and on-farm conservation work, tying malt flavors back to individual fields, varieties, seasonality, and family farm stories,” says Co-Founder and CEO Phil Neumann. “And as the culmination of what we’ve learned along the way, we’re proud to release our first flagship malts.”

Like all of Mainstem’s products, these blends directly support premium crop opportunities for conservation-minded family farms and celebrate fully traceable supply chains. “You can also rest assured that our ongoing innovations work will continue to redefine this lineup,” Neumann adds.

Meet The Malts

CASCADIA PILSNER

This crisp, clean, low protein Pilsner malt is a fantastic replacement for the finest imported malts on the market. It’s ready to scale with a wide range of premium lagers, ales, and spirits.

CASCADIA WHITE WHEAT

Crafted as a smooth, full bodied pale, this white wheat malt’s calling in life is to add a silky mouthfeel and delicate haze to traditional wheat beers and hazies alike, without all of the adjuncts.

EVERGREEN PALE

Our base pale malt is a bold and flavorful pale barley malt, for beers and spirits needing a bit more umph than our more delicate Pilsner malt. It’s also 100 percent Washington grown, helping Mainstem’s home state craft distillers meet their requirements for 51 percent in-state ingredient sourcing.

EVERGREEN ALDER SMOKE

Mainstem starts with the Evergreen Pale malt recipe, then cold smokes it on alderwood after kilning. The end result is a moderately smoked base malt that can be used at high percentages in both beer and whiskey, and harkens back to a time when alder smoke was more widely used in Pacific Northwest food preservation.

ABOUT MAINSTEM MALT

Mainstem Malt is a malt company like no other. All who complete the #SkaStreetRoadtrip, in any particular order, will receive a branded hammock featuring The Legion of Ska’s new logo celebrating the independence of this trifecta of Colorado establishments. Anyone who gets all three stamps on their passport will also be entered to win one grand prize: a private tasting and tour experience at any one of the three locations. Passport stamps can be turned in at any location on your last stop to be included in the grand prize drawing at the end of 2021.

“Ska Street closes the circle on the Front Range, making for the perfect triangle route around the state,” says Ska Brewing CEO Dave Thibodeau. “We’re stoked so many visitors head to drink Ska beer and now Ska Street spirits after they ride, hike, climb, and raft.”

This summer, road trippers can look for Thursday night barbecue and bands at SkaBQ at Ska Brewing’s World Headquarters in Durango, more music at Peach Street Distillers in Palisade, and more live tunes and tours at Ska Street Brewstillery in Boulder.

Share your journey on social media with the hashtag #SkaStreetRoadTrip to be featured.

Fermly and Resolute Brewing Present Arnold Palmer-Inspired Guild-Tee Party Beer For The Colorado Brewers Guild

Guild Tee Party was brewed to create the classic flavor profile of an Arnold Palmer, perfect for a late spring tee time.

DENVER, CO— Fermly, an independent lab for brewers based in Denver, debuts its latest collaboration this week. Guild-Tee Party was brewed with the Resolute Brewing team to support the Colorado Brewers Guild.

Guild Tee Party was brewed to create the classic flavor profile of an Arnold Palmer, perfect for a late spring tee time. Brewed with Pilsen and Cologne malt from BSG, Carafoam from Weyermann Malt, and Orange Pekoe tea from The Tea Spot in Boulder; and hopped with Magnum hops and tea in the boil to begin the first steps of infusion.

“The wort tasted like black tea but heavily sweetened,” says Emily Wang, Co-Founder and Lead Scientist at Fermly. “All of those fermentable sugars were broken down by Inland Island Golden Kolsch yeast to create an idyllic crispy profile. Whole lemon puree was added after fermentation. Best recommended to enjoy in collared shirts and well-coiffed lawns.”

Guild-Tee Party was served at the annual Colorado Brewers Guild golf tournament, and it made its debut at both of Resolute’s tasting rooms in Arvada and Centennial this week.

“Teaming up with Fermly for the CBG Tourney was a no-brainer. Emily and Danny provide an incredible service for us and many other breweries around the state,” says Andrew Duvall, Community & Sales Manager at Resolute Brewing. “Guild-Tee Party showcases their talents while celebrating a grand return to hanging out with all the awesome folks we so dearly missed in 2020. Ultimately, we miss doing kickass things with our friends in the industry, so we brewed about it! Also, the CBG helped us navigate so many obstacles throughout the pandemic by providing constant updates and guidance, while advocating for legislation such as direct-to-consumer deliveries. We would've been lost without them, so this beer is for the Executive Director Shawnee and company!”

ESTER_campaign_PR_photo_sm.jpg

NEW YORK, NY— ESTER is building a United States lab for the chemical and sensory testing of beers and development of their Flavor Intelligence database. Craft breweries are invited to join ESTER’s Flavor Intelligence Collective.

ESTER was launched in 2018 in Belgium, where the first Flavor Intelligence lab is located. The new New York-based lab facilitates analysis of more brands, allowing population of the flavor database more quickly.

Craft breweries can join ESTER’s Flavor Intelligence Collective with as little as one beer at the early adopter price of $600 per analysis, with pre-orders receiving an additional $100 discount. Breweries who join the Collective get a full, objective sensory analysis panel assessment of the flavors and aromas in their beer following scientific descriptive methods; a chemical analysis with more than 200 chemical compounds connected to flavor and quality; product comparison juxtaposing the beers in their assortment with industry competitors; and access to the world’s most comprehensive flavor database that empowers breweries and the craft industry to grow together.

“We want the craft beer community in the United States to come together and help us build the most complete database of scientific beer flavors ever cataloged,” says ESTER co-founder Jean Van Damme. “We are on a mission to level the playing field - making advanced flavor intelligence accessible to any brewer that is passionate about their product and wants to bring it to the people who will love it.”
