In response to customer demand, Black Shirt Brewing Co has added delivery to its service options. Fans of the brewery's spent grain pizza, wings, and handcrafted beer are now able to order online and opt for delivery within a predetermined radius. Black Shirt plans to deliver while they’ve reopened their taproom with limited capacity.
"Because we had to shutter on March 16, we're working hard to get everything back up to speed," said Chad Miller, owner and CEO. "And given issues with supply chains and ingredient sourcing, we're reopening in stages, taking every safety precaution into account as we ramp up to full capacity."
With state guidelines regarding taproom/restaurant seating in flux, many establishments have pivoted to curbside service, pick up and delivery models. Black Shirt is adopting this approach with an added twist: To eliminate pesky service fees, the brewery is not utilizing delivery services such as Door Dash or GrubHub. Instead, BSB employees will serve as drivers. This also allows for Black Shirt to control the quality and consistency of its product (and service) from the second an order is submitted to the moment that order is delivered.
Currently, Black Shirt offers a limited menu, including Take Home Kits (choose from spent grain pizza or oven baked wings, instructions included), build-your-own pizza, garlic knots, and a wide selection of beer-to-go (both crowlers and bottle conditioned beers). A Pay It Forward option is also available: Guests can purchase a gift card for a first responder and/or frontline worker (police, fire department, paramedics and medical personnel), and Black Shirt will facilitate distribution of those cards. Thus far the brewery has disbursed 14 Pay It Forwards to deserving professionals.
Launched on May 16, the response to Black Shirt's delivery option has been extremely positive. "By adding this temporary service, we hope to help alleviate some of the concerns people have about venturing out," says Miller. "Our guests were so patient and so supportive during our closure, and they cheered us on when we announced that we were able to reopen. This short-term pivot is for all of them."
"It's just good to be back in action," adds Miller. "We're doing everything we can to make it through to the other side, whatever that looks like."

*Black Shirt Brewing is now officially open again — they’ve reopened their taproom and three outdoor patio areas with limited capacity on May 27th.
