Living The Dream Brewing Continues To Increase Production and Community Engagement After Expanding Distribution Statewide in Colorado

Here is the 2022 Living The Dream Brewing Year in Review.

LITTLETON, CO— Living The Dream Brewing reported continued momentum in 2022 after their statewide distribution expansion. This past year brought new beers, several awards, and many philanthropic opportunities for the brewery, which donated more than $13,000 to local causes. Here is the 2022 Living The Dream Brewing Year in Review.

PRODUCTION & SALES

The installation of new equipment in 2020 for capacity and its increase in production in 2021 poised Living The Dream for a new distribution agreement with Colorado Craft Distributors in 2022. Since the companies announced their partnership last May, the brewery continues to increase production and sales.

Now Colorado residents and visitors can find cans of Living The Dream mainstay beers— Powder Run Vanilla Cream Ale and its variants, 7-Speed IPA, Mountain Drive American Ale, and  Fly Reel Amber Ale— as well as canned seasonals across the Centennial State year round.

TEAM

The Living The Dream team continued to grow and is now up to 15 employees.

In 2022 the brewery promoted Michael Acerra to General Manager, hired Jayme Hillian to manage events and social media, and continued brewing operations under the leadership of Head Brewer Rob Meehan.

BEER

Living the Dream Brewing released an array of specialty beers in 2022, including Powder Run Vanilla Cream Ale variants Lemon Bar, Key Lime Pie, Tangerine, Horchata, and the famed holiday seasonal Gingerbread. Root Beer Float is the newest addition to this series, and currently available in cans and on tap while supplies last.

Living The Dream debuted the High Line Pilsner in cans over the summer, and released many experimental batches on draft throughout the year. These beers included Sunrise Tangerine Wheat, several dark and traditional German-style lagers, and the Port Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout made in collaboration with Littleton’s ROCKER Spirits

ACCOLADES

Living the Dream received six awards in the 2022 Denver International Beer Competition: Gold for Velvet Imperial Stout and Port-Bourbon Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout; Silver for 7 Speed IPA, Guava Mountain Gose, and Powder Run Cream Ale; and Bronze for Fly Reel Amber Ale. The brewery also took home a silver award in the American Style Fruit Beer – Tangerine category of the 2022 U.S. Beer Open Championship.

COMMUNITY

Living The Dream invested in its taproom experience in 2022 by adding pinball machines and a pool table, hosting numerous events and a variety of food trucks, and installing new heated patio tents for year-round, comfortable outdoor seating.

Living The Dream’s continued its partnership with the Highlands Ranch Community Association, which includes sponsoring the Highlands Ranch Race Series and hosting a monthly Beer For Bucks night, raised more than $2400 for the association in 2022. Among the brewery’s other philanthropic initiatives were the 2nd Annual Daniel Vogt Memorial in partnership with Proud Souls Barbecue & Provisions that raised more than $11,000 for the American Cancer Society.

Living The Dream also teamed up with Physio Racing, Runners Edge, and Fire Pit Runners on group runs and rides throughout the year.

Living The Dream collaborated with two fellow Colorado breweries– Base Camp Beer Works and Ska Brewing— for the 2022 Colorado Brewers Guild’s Collaboration Festival that took place in April. In October, the brewery continued its support of the beer community at large as a sponsor of the 40th annual Great American Beer Festival.

Living The Dream is proud to partner with RadCraft on its communications strategy, which in 2022 included a revamp of its website in collaboration with Midwest Coast Media.

MOVING FORWARD

The brewery is teaming up on brew days with New Terrain Brewing and Payette Brewing for the 2023 Collaboration Festival, and experimenting with fresh flavors for upcoming beer releases. Customers can look forward to Living The Dream’s 9th anniversary celebration this summer.

Lone Tree Brewing and Resolute Brewing Present Abundant Forest, A Dark Rice Lager Collaboration

Abundant Forest is a dark lager brewed with rice and Leopold Bros. pilsner malt, flaked rice, and chocolate malt; and hopped with German hop varietals Ariana and Callista.

COLORADO— Lone Tree Brewing and Resolute Brewing are psyched to debut their first-ever, long time coming collaboration: Abundant Forest.

Abundant Forest is a dark lager brewed with Leopold Bros. pilsner malt, flaked rice, and chocolate malt; and hopped with German hop varietals Ariana and Callista. This easy-drinking, rich-colored lager yields notes of sweet malt, floral bouquet, and cocoa dusted raspberries. It weighs in at 6% ABV.

“The conversation about what to brew went to dark lager pretty quickly,” says Resolute Head Brewer Kyle Larkin. “Knowing this beer would be released and consumed during the colder months, we wanted a beer with a warming appearance and nose, but easy drinkability. The end result was a dark rice lager. The crew over at Lone Tree have used rice quite a bit in their beers, and it's an ingredient we haven't really played around with here. So we were excited to incorporate it into the recipe.”

South Metro Denver neighbors and friends for years, these two breweries were excited to finally collaborate. You can taste their creation on draft at both Resolute locations in Centennial and Arvada, and at Lone Tree Brewing in Lone Tree- all while supplies last.

Contact Emily Hutto at hutto@radcraftbeer.com for information about this collaboration, or either brewery.

Eddyline Brewery and Lone Tree Brewing Go Beyond Treeline To Produce New Canned IPA

Beyond Treeline is a bold, experimental Double IPA made with a lot of passion for the Colorado beer community.

COLORADO— Eddyline Brewery and Lone Tree Brewing are proud to premier their new Beyond Treeline IPA, born out of the relationship between the two brewery sales teams.

Eddyline and Lone Tree have long shared a distribution house, Western Distributing, and high-fived at events all over the Front Range and the Arkansas Valley of Colorado. The 2022 Colorado Brewers Guild Collaboration Festival gave them a reason to make a beer together— and to go beyond the horizon. Beyond Treeline is a bold, experimental Double IPA made with a lot of passion for the Colorado beer community.

Hopped with Mandarina Bavaria, and two experimental hops from Hop Breeding Company– Talus™ and the fresh hybrid HBC 586— Beyond Treeline is quenching, with fruit-forward hop aroma, low bitterness, and a soft mouthfeel. Huge peach and stone fruit on the nose meet tropical flavors like guava, pineapple, and coconut in this innovative IPA, all balanced out by subtle oak and herbal notes on the finish. Its beautiful orange, slightly hazy hue is reminiscent of sunset casting on treeline.

Beyond Treeline will debut in cans across Colorado in April with artwork that features Lone Tree’s signature tree design and Eddyline’s hop-bearded can character, who’s sporting backpack stickers for each brewery and a special heart for Colorado craft beer legend Andy Jessen.

Find Beyond Treeline in 16 oz. 6-packs wherever you buy Eddyline and Lone Tree beers in Colorado, and on tap at Eddyline’s tasting rooms in Buena Vista, and Lone Tree Brewing Co. while supplies last.

Collaboration Beers Abound at Living The Dream Brewing Company

It’s unofficial collaboration brew season at Living The Dream Brewing Company, who are partnering with several Colorado breweries on beers to be served at Collaboration Fest, and to support the Pink Boots Society.

LITTLETON, CO– It’s unofficial collaboration brew season at Living The Dream Brewing Company, who are partnering with several Colorado breweries to create specialty beers that span styles and concepts; to be served at Collaboration Fest, and to support the Pink Boots Society.

Fresh off a tapping of the Treat Yo Self Stout made with Lady Justice Brewing for Stout Month, Living The Dream brewers collaborated on three beers that are now available while supplies last. Meet them here.

Pink Boots Society

A celebration of the Pink Boots Society International Women’s Collaboration Brew Day, A Kühl Of Their Own is an experimental Lager that was brewed at 105 West Brewing in Castle Rock. It’s inspired by all things fun in the sun, baseball, peaches, Big League Chew®, and cold beer. The name is a clever combination of a classic women’s baseball movie reference, and the German word Kühl, meaning cool, cold, or chilly. This beer will be available at Living the Dream, Platt Park Brewing Co., and 105 West Brewing Co.

Monumental Beer Works

For Collaboration Fest 2022, Living the Dream wanted to partner with Western Slope breweries who they often visit when they’re out playing in Colorado’s wilderness. First up, they called previous Living The Dream team member Brian Fischer of Monumental Beer Works and the two breweries created Hurricane Hazy IPA. It’s inspired by a Hurricane cocktail, infused with flavors of passionfruit, orange, lime, and cherry.

“It’s very fulfilling seeing Monumental succeed and grow,” said Jason Bell, Founder of Living the Dream.

Ska Brewing

In another Collaboration Fest 2022 partnership, Living the Dream teamed up with Ska Brewing to brew Living The Ska Dream Double IPA. The focus in this brew was hop additions, and lots of them. Brewers used nine unique hops and multiple hopping techniques. “We wanted a big base to build on but didn’t want to get into the ‘Triple IPA’ range,” says Living The Dream Head Brewer Rob Meehan. “We’ve got bittering, aroma, whirlpool, dip hop, and dry hop additions to show how each variety can add something unique based on type of addition.”

Living the Dream is excited to work with Colorado beer icon Ska to create something truly unique that can be enjoyed across the state.

Try all of these storied beers, and more, in the Living The Dream tasting room and at the collaborating locations while supplies last. Contact Emily Hutto at hutto@radcraftbeer.com with media inquiries about any of the above.

Crystal Springs Brewing Co., Great Divide Brewing Co., and Lone Tree Brewing Co. Collaborate on Colorado Sweep Wheat Ale

Colorado Breweries Collaborate on American Fruit Beer after sweeping 2021 GABF Category.

Photo courtesy Nikki A Rae Photography

DENVER, CO— Last year three prized Colorado craft breweries made headlines when they swept the competitive American Fruit Beer category at the 2021 Great American Beer Festival®. Their collaboration brew Colorado Sweep, an American Wheat Ale, is now available at each brewery’s tasting room.

The hardware that the Crystal Springs Blood Orange Kölsch (gold), Great Divide Wild Raspberry Ale (silver), and Lone Tree Peach Pale Ale (bronze) took home last year was the perfect impetus for these Front Range breweries to join forces for a collaboration beer to celebrate and serve at the annual Colorado Brewers Guild Collaboration Fest.

“This idea came about immediately after the GABF awards were announced in September 2021,” says Matt Sandy, Great Divide’s Marketing Manager. The winners were Crystal Springs Blood Orange Kölsch (gold), Great Divide Wild Raspberry Ale (silver), and Lone Tree Peach Pale Ale (bronze). “Because Colorado swept the American Fruited Ale category, we thought it would be fun to collaborate with the other breweries and keyed in on Collaboration Fest as being the perfect arena to celebrate this group effort. Not only has the fest become one of the country’s premier showcases for unique collaborations, it also fell around the same time we were planning on releasing our winning beer, Wild Raspberry Ale, in 6-packs.”

Crystal Springs, Great Divide, and Lone Tree gathered last month to craft an American Wheat Ale with both white and flaked Wheat, and Hallertau Magnum, Saaz, Cascade, and Lemondrop hops to create complexity of body, and refreshing, citrus and fruit-forward flavors. The breweries then added blood orange, raspberry, and peach to represent the fruits in all three of the award winners.

“The combination of fruits contributed by each brewery should create a fun and refreshing beer that we are all excited to share with the public at Collaboration Fest,” says Lone Tree Sales & Marketing Director Dennis Stack.

Festival-goers at Collaboration Fest should be on the lookout for this inspired fruit beer before it’s gone. Catch Colorado Sweep on tap at each brewery’s respective locations while supplies last.

Our Mutual Friend Presents Hear Me Out IPA in Collaboration with Fermly

Hear Me Out— this IPA was brewed with quality ingredients from some of Our Mutual Friend’s favorite suppliers and shaped by the data and insight Fermly provided throughout the brewing process.

DSC06570.jpg

DENVER, CO— Fermly, an independent lab for brewers based in Denver, has teamed up with Our Mutual Friend on a new IPA. Hear Me Out— this IPA was brewed with quality ingredients from some of Our Mutual Friend’s favorite suppliers and shaped by the data and insight Fermly provided throughout the brewing process.

Hear Me Out is a fruit-forward Tropical IPA with notes of guava, mango and pineapple. This 8.9% ABV IPA was crafted with malt from Root Shoot Malting, fermented with Kveik yeast from Inland Island Yeast, and hopped with the Pink Boots Society and Zythos hop blends from Yakima Chief Hops.

The owners at Fermly and Our Mutual Friend share the belief that by working across industries, you are able to learn more, work better together, and make even better beer. This belief inspired Hear Me Out IPA.

"I've been working with Fermly for a few years now, and they have been a tremendous partner in helping us make the best beer we possibly can," says Head Brewer, Jan Chodkowski. "The expertise they provide helps us dial in our recipes and assures us that we are putting out quality products. An awesome bonus is that they are rad people and are just as passionate about beer as we are."

Our Mutual Friend has crafted collaborations with other suppliers, but this was the first one they’ve done with an independent research lab. Danny Wang, Fermly’s Co-Founder and Information Architect, adds, “A major motivation behind Fermly is to help brewers succeed by providing them with better access to information that helps improve the quality of the beers they brew. Being involved in Our Mutual Friend’s recipe development and brewing process was a treat.”

Hear Me Out can be found on tap at Our Mutual Friend, and in 16-ounce four-packs while supplies last.

For more information about Fermly or this collaboration, contact Emily Hutto at hutto@radcraftbeer.com.

ABOUT OUR MUTUAL FRIEND BREWING

Our Mutual Friend Brewing opened in December of 2012 with the goal of creating a place for community through their small neighborhood taproom in the up and coming River North (RiNo) neighborhood. Starting on a 31-gallon brew system, they worked tirelessly to understand the techniques and history of beer while looking forward to where craft beer was heading. Doing so influenced their vision to create beers with a sense of place, forging relationships with Colorado hop and barley growers, and has allowed them to offer as many 100% Colorado grown beers as possible. In 2015 they earned a silver medal in the wood and barrel aged sour category at the Great American Beer Festival for 24FPS, a 100% Colorado mixed-culture fermentation barrel-aged sour beer.

In 2017 OMF continued its organic growth, increasing capacity to meet demand and offer traditional styles while still being afforded the opportunity for experimentation. 2016 and 2017 saw OMF receiving back to back silver medals at GABF in the brett beer category for Dreamy Thing (a collaboration with Cerebral Brewing) and Saison Trystero as well as a bronze medal in International Pale Ale for Inner Light in 2020.

Lone Tree Brewing Co. and Peak View Brewing Co. Tap Lemon Squeeze Collaboration Saison

Lemon Squeeze Collaboration Saison by Lone Tree Brewing Co. and Peak View Brewing Co. will be available on March 10.

Screen Shot 2021-03-11 at 2.48.11 PM.png

LONE TREE, CO— Lone Tree Brewing Co. has teamed up with Peak View Brewing Co. to brew a Belgian-Style Meringue Saison with a poppy seed twist. Lemon Squeeze Collaboration Saison will be available on March 10.

In January, the production staff from both breweries met up for beers to develop a recipe that fused Peak View's creative use of exotic ingredients with Lone Tree's more traditional, but experimental brewing philosophy.

Lemon Squeeze Collaboration Saison was brewed with lactose, vanilla, Meyer Lemon puree, and a touch of poppy seed cake filling for a tinge of earthy sweetness. This one-of-a-kind farmhouse ale has aroma that wafts vanilla, lemon, and light pepper, with noticeable lemon bitterness coupled with citrus notes to taste. It weighs in at 6.8% ABV.

“We borrowed pasty beer inspiration from Peak View Brewing Co.,” says Chris Gilmore, Lead Brewer of Lone Tree Brewing Co. “The poppy seed is very subtle in flavor and adds a nice contrast to the lemon puree."

The Lemon Squeeze Collaboration Saison will be tapped in both the Lone Tree Brewing and Peak View Brewing Co. tasting rooms on draft only on Wednesday March 10 while supplies last.

For more information about this zesty collaboration, contact Sarah Nelson at nelson@radcraftbeer.com.

Karl Strauss and AleSmith Debut Blink of an IPA Collaboration Beer

Not only does kveik yeast ferment incredibly quickly, but also it is known for producing bright, citrusy esters fit for an India Pale Ale.

Blink of an IPA.jpg

SAN DIEGO, CA— Karl Strauss Brewing Company has a brand new beer in its collaboration series! Introducing Blink of an IPA, an experimental India Pale Ale brewed with AleSmith Brewing Company. This limited release is fermented with Norwegian kveik yeast and will debut on October 10th in cans and on draft throughout California.

Long-time friends and first-time collaborators, Karl Strauss and AleSmith are both known for experimenting with their small batch releases. Neither brewery had previously brewed with kveik yeast, which meant that Ryan Crisp (AleSmith’s Director of Brewery Operations & Head Brewer) and Matt Johnson (Brewmaster of Brewery Operations at Karl Strauss) were eager to jump in and experiment.

“Both Ryan and I wanted to brew a Kveik IPA. Hops are usually the star in an India Pale Ale, so it was a lot of fun to primarily focus on the yeast for this particular IPA. Kveik is really such a unique strain. We were amazed how well it fermented at higher temperatures– from 78°F to 98°F!” – Matt Johnson, Karl Strauss Brewmaster of Brewery Operations.

Not only does kveik ferment incredibly quickly – within days, instead of weeks like typical ale yeast – but it is known for producing bright, citrusy esters. This makes is a natural fit for an India Pale Ale.

Blink of an IPA weighs in at 6.5% ABV with aromas of stone fruit and pineapple. It is brewed with Simcoe, Citra, Ekuanot, El Dorado, and BRU-1 experimental hops. The beer is light in body, intense with orange and fresh fruit flavors, and finishes with a pleasant, lingering bitterness.

Blink of an IPA will be one of Karl Strauss’ featured collaborations at Collabapalooza, their celebration of independent beer coming up on Saturday, October 19th. But fans of Karl and AleSmith can snag this collab even earlier, beginning on Thursday, October 10th. This limited release IPA will be available on draft and in 16oz can 4-packs at Karl Strauss’ Brewpubs, Tasting Room, and at craft accounts throughout California.

For more information about Blink of an IPA, contact Emily Hutto at hutto@radcraftbeer.com.

ABOUT CANCERBLOWS

In 2013 43-year-old Dallas Symphony Orchestra trumpeter Ryan Anthony was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, a terminal bone marrow cancer that typically appears in patients aged 70 and older. Ryan’s musical community rallied around him and when they offered support, he jokingly replied that “we’ll all play a concert when I am healthy again and we’ll call it 'Cancer Blows'”. Ryan is now in remission, and the joke morphed into The Ryan Anthony Foundation, who in 2015 put on CancerBlows, a once-in-a-lifetime musical event bringing together the most famous trumpet players in the world. The event raised more than $1 million with all of the net proceeds donated to the Baylor Health Care Research Foundation and Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation that work toward a cure for cancer. Karl Strauss Supports Pink Boots Society with Two Collaboration Brew Days and Beer Release

Karl Strauss continues their commitment to the nonprofit organization with a beer release in celebration of women, diversity, and the local beer community.

DSC_0899.JPG

SAN DIEGO, CA— Karl Strauss Brewing Company has long been a proud supporter of Pink Boots Society through participation in yearly collaboration brews, funding of scholarships & donations, and active involvement in local PBS chapters. Fresh off hosting the San Diego Pink Boots monthly chapter meeting at their Tasting Room earlier this year, Karl Strauss continues their commitment to the nonprofit organization with a beer release from – not one but two – brew days in celebration of women, diversity, and the local beer community.

On Thursday March 7th at their Anaheim brewpub, the Karl Strauss crew rolled up their sleeves for a brew day led by Brewer Jarrod Davis. The following day on International Women’s Day, more KARL team members brewed at their La Jolla brewpub led by Brewer Melissa Sanchez.

“Pink Boots Collaboration Brew Day gives everyone the opportunity to have a hand in all parts of the brewing process, from conception to completion. I think it gives everyone not only an appreciation for the finished product, but also a sense of pride and accomplishment.” – Brewer Melissa Sanchez, Karl Strauss Brewing Company

More than twenty Karl Strauss team members joined for the brew days. This year’s beer recipe was created by Davis and Sanchez, who wanted to highlight 2019’s Pink Boots Hop Blend from Yakima Chief Hops. Bitter In Pink is a San Diego-style ESB, an Extra Special Bitter that’s then hopped to the max (as well as dry-hopped) to emphasize that Pink Boots blend of Loral, Glacier, Mosaic, Sabro, and Simcoe hops. The name was chosen by Karl Strauss brew day participants.

Bitter In Pink San Diego-style ESB will be pouring at Karl Strauss’ Tasting Room & Beer Garden, Brewpubs, and at select craft beer accounts throughout California beginning Monday, April 1st. Karl Strauss will make a donation to Pink Boots Society in support of their mission: To assist, inspire, and encourage women beer professionals through education. For more information on their efforts, visit www.pinkbootssociety.org.

Thirsty Monk Debuts First of Several Crooked Stave Collaborations, BBR IPA

The first of several Thirsty Monk and Crooked Stave collaborations will tap in Denver in coming weeks and months.

ThirstyMonk+CrookedStave-2.jpg

DENVER, CO— Thirsty Monk, brewer of Belgian-Rooted Modern Ales and operator of world-recognized craft beer and craft cocktail bars, will tap the first of several collaboration beers with Crooked Stave Artisan Beer Project this week. This collaboration, the Brett Brut Rose IPA otherwise known as BBR IPA, is available on draft only while supplies last at Thirsty Monk’s Denver location.

When Crooked Stave owner and founder Chad Yakobson visited Thirsty Monk to taste beers before this collaboration, the Brut IPA was his favorite. Thirsty Monk’s Head Brewer Brian Grace  worked at Crooked Stave as Head Brewer for several years, and he’s excited about the opportunity to continue to work with Yakobson and crew.

“We talked about the Brut style and how we both thought that using German hops instead of the typical IPA hops that people are using would lend a more wine-like aroma and make the style more along the lines of what we like to drink,” Grace says. “The hibiscus and rose petals were something that Chad and I have talked about using over the years when I worked at Crooked Stave so we went for it! These additions, along with Hallertau Blanc, Huell Melon, Mandarina Bavaria, Centennial and Amarillo give the beer a pink hue and floral, citrus and berry-like aromas. Naturally, any collaboration with Crooked Stave should include Brettanomyces…. the conversations continued from there and this beer was born.”

BBR is the first of several Thirsty Monk and Crooked Stave collaborations to tap in Denver in coming weeks and months.

For more information about Thirsty Monk and Crooked Stave’s collaboration beers, contact Emily Hutto at coop@radcraftbeer.com.

A Celebration of Regional Malt: Proximity Malt and Ska Brewing Collaborate on Green Silo Saison

Named for Ska Brewing’s new green silo filled with Proximity Malt, this beer will be available in limited 12-ounce canned 6-packs.

RC_2018BREWDAY_EDIT1_TK_121318-89.jpg

DURANGO, CO— Last month Ska Brewing and Proximity Malt collaborated on a Dark Rye Saison, Green Silo Saison, to recognize their partnership. Named for Ska Brewing’s new green silo filled with Proximity Malt, this beer will be available in limited 12-ounce canned 6-packs on January 11.

RC_2018BREWDAY_EDIT1_TK_121318-108.jpg

Ska Brewing supports Proximity Malt’s commitment to shorten supply chains by providing local, sustainable, and consistently malted barley, so much so that they added a large green silo outside their tasting room to hold more Proximity Malt.

The Green Silo Saison was created by a conference call between the great minds of Ska Brewing, Proximity Malt, and Steve Dresler— a retired brewmaster from Sierra Nevada. Dave Kuske, Proximity Malt’s VP of Operations, described the recipe development process: “We wanted to think outside the box and showcase the spicy notes and characteristics of our chocolate rye with a brown Saison.“

Green Silo Saison finishes with all of the traits you’d expect from a Saison, with the delicate notes of silky chocolate, banana, and dark cherries. The spiciness on the nose has notes of subtle black pepper, allspice, clove and nutmeg— all from the use of malt, not additional spices.

“Proximity takes great pride in working as the intermediary between the brewers and the growers. We are excited to support their commitment to the region by working together and purchasing malt grown right here in our home state,” explained Ska Brewing’s CEO Dave Thibodeau. Ska utilizes Proximity’s base and specialty malts in many of its recipes.

Intentional Brett, Nordic Farmhouse Saison, and Piña Collaba— Beers You've Got To Try at the 5th Annual Collaboration Festival

Collaboration Fest sports more beers brewed with craft malt this year than ever before.

Named America's most creative beer festival by Food & Wine, Collaboration Fest is back for the fifth year offering more beers brewed with craft malt than ever before.

More than 10 collaborations were made with Root Shoot Malting Company’s brewery partners crafted beers with Loveland-grown and malted barley for this year’s Collaboration Fest. These beers include Ursula Brewery's and Westbound & Down Brewing Company's Farmhouse IPA  that was brewed using 100 percent Root Shoot malts and Citra, Moutere, and Loral Cryo hops; and two hazy IPAs by Lost Highway Brewing Company, with Berthoud Brewing and Peacemaker Brewing, respectively.

Plot your beer festival map. Taste these projects before they're gone...

Strange Craft + Freetail Brewing Co.

Strange Craft got the Collab Fest ball rolling early, the day after GABF to be exact. Jason Davis, the Director of Brewing Ops at Freetail Brewing stuck around after the festival for Denver’s first snow day of the season to help brew what will go down in history as Strange Craft’s first intentional Brett beer. Don’t ask about the unintentional ones. StrangeTail Seven is a malt-forward English IPA was finished in a Red Wine barrels inoculated with a different variety of Brettanomyces in each barrel.

Lone Tree Brewing Company + Cannonball Creek Brewing Co.

Craft malt liquor— it’s all the rage right now. And Collab Fest participants will get to taste one of the finest, crafted by the Billy Dee fans over at Lone Tree Brewing Company with their friends and fellow 40-lovers Cannonball Creek Brewing. This tall beauty was brewed with a traditional grain bill consisting of mostly pilsner malt paired with flaked corn, flaked rice and some dextrose sugar to lighten the body of the beer. A massive amount of Hallertau Blanc and Vic Secret hops went into this boil and asa dry hops, which made this malt liquor as "juicy' as your favorite hazy IPA. Weighing in at 7.6 percent ABV and 35 IBU, this beer pushes the envelope of what a malt liquor can be.

Station 26 + Sleeping Giant Brewing Company, Wibby Brewing

Station 26 Brewing Co. collaborated with Sleeping Giant to create Nordic Farmhouse Tripel Double IPA brewed with White Wheat, Pilsner, Vienna, and CaraBelge malt, Candi Sugar, and hopped with Cascade, Citra, and Mandarina Bavaria.

Station 26 has also collaborated with Longmont-based Wibby Brewing to craft a Biere de Mars with the perfect balance of malt, hops, and an Inland Island yeast induced spiciness. Station 26 founder, Justin Baccary, suggested the idea of using a French Ale strain from Inland Island and Ryan Wibby was excited about using a different yeast strain and brewing with some more interesting, aromatic hops making this a truly collaborative and unique drinking experience.

Bonfire Brewing + Zuni Street Brewing, Invasive Species Brewing

There’s a childhood story— well, a lot of them— behind this collaboration brew. “We all grew up together,” says Jim Rabun who brews for Bonfie Brewing, “and so it’s been great to get back together with TJ and Willy and come up with a beer inspired by all of us.” This beer is kind of like a light Porter, or a dark Belgian recipe, brewed with chocolate malt from Proximity Malting and fermented with Zuni's house Belgian yeast strain. “We decided on this beer because we are into brewing dark beers and Zuni is great at Belgian's so we decided to combine to two together,” adds Rabun.

Bonfire also worked with Florida based Invasive Species Brewing on a Hazy Piña Colada IPA, appropriately named Piña Collaba. This lighter bodied IPA displays the tropical flavors from Denali and Motueka hops, Pineapple, Coconut, Passionfruit, and an addition of Lactose for more mouthfeel and increased sweetness.

Ska Brewing + Ratio Beerworks

From the hearts of a bunch of punks who love great music and great beer comes this new twist on a White IPA. Magnetic North Norwegian White IPA hits with a classic wheat base, dry hopped with Mandarina Bavaria and Amarillo. The Nordic Farmhouse yeast strain gives notes of orange with a dry finish to this bright, citrusy, making Magnetic North a true Spring crusher.

Holly Gerard shared her Magnetic North brew day shots on her badass beertography blog and Instagram feed, Aperture of Ales. Check them out here.

Funkwerks + New Image Brewing Co.

Meet Arnie, a Kettle Sour with black tea and lemon peel. This beer will cleanse your palate after a long day of diverse flavors. Don’t wait until the end of the fest to get it, though!

Eddyline Brewery + High Alpine Brewing Co.

High Stoke Scotch Ale is a collaboration between Eddyline Brewery and High Alpine Brewing Company. A big malty nose gives way to a very slight herbal hop aroma. Rich caramel malt flavors dominate the palate, finishing with the slightest smoke impression. Mouth feel has a soft tactile feel on the tongue. Deliciously drinkable and gets even better as it warms in the glass.

Strange Craft + Fiction Beer Company

The Stranger Than Fiction is a strong Saison was brewed with oats and spelt before it fermented with a blend of Strange Craft's house Belgian yeast and Brettanomyces and barrel aged on plums and blackberries. See what they did there?

Strange Craft + Metropolitan State University

Strange Craft also brewed a third Collab Fest beer with Metropolitan State University creating Nitro Raspberry Porter, a traditional English Porter finished on Raspberries.

Strange Craft Beer Co. Releases 2017 Batch of Strangely Epic

Strangely Epic is a blend of Strange Craft’s tart fruit explosion Cherry Kriek and Epic Brewing’s monster imperial stout Big Bad Baptist. The result is a complex journey through coffee, chocolate, and cherries.

StrangelyEpic bottle 10-2017 v2.jpg

DENVER, CO —  One of Colorado’s favorite collaboration brews is back for the fourth year. Strangely Epic, a blend of two infamous beers from Strange Craft Beer Company and Epic Brewing, is now available in limited bombers across Colorado and at Strange Craft’s tasting room.

Strangely Epic is a blend of Strange Craft’s tart fruit explosion Cherry Kriek and Epic Brewing’s monster imperial stout Big Bad Baptist. The result is a complex journey through coffee, chocolate, and cherries. This beer was first created in 2013 for Denver’s Collaboration Fest. It was crafted at both breweries, and accordingly named Strangely Epic and Epically Strange respectively for where each beer was brewed and blended.

Strange Craft and Epic Brewing both opened in 2010, and owners and head brewers Tim Myers and Kevin Crompton became fast industry friends. “Tim is a brother from another mother,” says Epic Brewmaster Kevin Crompton. “We have so many things in common— similar approaches to our beer problem solving, similar creativity— this collaboration happened really organically.”

“Strangely Epic was one of our first collaborations” says Tim Myers. “Kevin and I weren’t really sure how Cherry Kriek would stand up to Big Bad Baptist, and we had a lot of fun figuring out the right ratio.”

Bombers of Strangely Epic will be available in limited quantities across Colorado, and at Strange Craft’s tasting room where the beer will be served on tap while supplies last.

For more information about Strangely Epic, or with any other media inquiries, feel free to contact Emily Hutto at coop@radcraftbeer.com.
