Karl Strauss and Cervecería Colorado Release Cajeta Borracha in Denver
Karl Strauss Brewing Company and Cerveceria Colorado present an English Mild brewed with plantains.
DENVER, CO— Karl Strauss Brewing Company and Cervecería Colorado collaborated together to brew an English Mild called Cajeta Borracha during CBC week in Denver, Colorado. This beer, brewed with roasted plantains, cinnamon bark, vanilla beans, and Cajeta, will tap today, Friday May 10, at Cervecería Colorado.
Even with more than 35 years of brewing experience between them, Jason Beuhler, the head brewer at Cervecería Colorado, and Paul Segura, Brewmaster of Research and Development at Karl Strauss Brewing Company, had never brewed with plantains before this collaboration.=
The decision to make such a unique flavor profile for the brew began with Beuhler’s recent trip to Mexico.
“We wanted to use a unique combination of ingredients to create a flavor profile inspired by Mexico,” said Beuhler. “I brought back the cinnamon bark from a recent trip to Mexico and I've eaten roasted plantains served by street vendors there before. We thought the combination of cinnamon and plantain would be great with cajeta which is commonly used in mexican candy.”
Segura looked at the ingredients and suggested the English Mild as a base style to compliment the cajeta flavor and finish with the plantains and cinnamon.
Cajeta Borracha will be released Friday, May 10 at Cervecería Colorado, located at 1635 Platte Street in Denver.
For more information about Karl Strauss Brewing Company or with any media inquiries, contact Emily Hutto at coop@radcraftbeer.com.
ABOUT CAJETA BORRACHA
Stats: 4.6% ABV
Base: English Mild
Special Ingredients: Roasted plantains, Ceylon Cinnamon bark from Veracruz, Vanilla beans, and Cajeta
This collaboration between Cervecería Colorado and Karl Strauss Brewing in San Diego features a delightful combination of dessert infused flavors of Mexico. The base beer of an English Mild is made with brown and caramel malts. Roasted plantains were added to the mash for a hint of banana and the beer was fermented with cajeta, which is a goat’s milk caramel closely related to dulce de leche, commonly found in Mexican candies. Aging on ceylon cinnamon bark from Veracruz and vanilla beans brings the flavors together for a delightful caramel treat. Salud!

DENVER, CO— Thirsty Monk, brewer of Belgian-Rooted Modern Ales and operator of world-recognized craft beer and craft cocktail bars, is tapping the third of their Karma Series beers, Unity Gose, in early May. Brewed in support of LGBTQ equality and inclusion, this lemon kiwi Gose will be available on tap in Asheville, Denver and Portland locations while supplies last.
Unity Gose gets the party started with flavors and aromas of bright lemon, subtle kiwi and a crisp yet rounded mouthfeel, finished with the additions of salt and lactose. Ska Brewing and Rancid Brewstomper Golden Ale Debuts at Bash Music & Craft Beer Festival May 11
Brewstomper Golden Ale, brewed by Ska Brewing and Rancid, will debut at The Bash Music & Craft Beer Festival.
PHOENIX, AZ— Brewstomper Golden Ale, brewed by Ska Brewing and Rancid, will debut at The Bash Music & Craft Beer Festival’s first show at Margaret T. Hance Park in Phoenix on Saturday, May 11. The beer will be available in cans at all of the festival shows this season.
At 5% ABV Brewstomper is a crisp, refreshing golden ale designed to be enjoyed with music and friends, the type of beer that doesn’t dominate the conversation, it simply enhances it. While the hops and malt work quietly backstage without bravado, the show certainly couldn’t go on without them.
Brewstomper will be available on tap at Ska’s World Headquarters in Durango, Colorado on May 10 at 5pm. Cans of the newly released beer will be 2 for $5 at this tapping event. Expect some Rancid music in the background.
Fans of the band and the brewery can also find Brewstomper in canned 6-packs across Ska’s distribution footprint beginning next week. It will be available in limited quantities in Colorado, Arizona, Southern California, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Utah.

Elevation Beer CO. Releases Fruited Spring Seasonals
Raspberry Gulch and Pineapple Acide are now available for a limited time in six packs of 12 oz. cans.
PONCHA SPRINGS, CO— Spring has sprung in the Arkansas River Valley and Elevation Beer Co. has released two fruit beers to celebrate the season. Raspberry Gulch and Pineapple Acide are now available for a limited time in six packs of 12 oz. cans across Colorado while supplies last.
Raspberry Gulch is a fruited Imperial Saison with a traditional yeast strain from Belgium and nearly 18 pounds of raspberries per barrel. Raspberry Gulch plucks that high altitude tart trailside raspberry and puts it right in your glass. With subtle notes of hay and a comfortable 7.5% ABV, this seasonal release is the perfect way to start your spring adventures.
The French translation of sour, Acide, is the brewery’s trip into the increasingly popular style of kettle soured beers and has since spawned several fruit variants including Peach, Pomegranate, Raspberry, and now the return and canned debut of Pineapple Acide as the first 2019 release in the series.
Brewed with lactobacillus and coming in at 4.5% ABV, Pineapple Acide is delicately balanced for an approachable level of puckering sourness, pleasant acidity, and a tart refreshing finish on the tongue. Lemony and floral aromas arise from a generous dose of Amarillo hops and meld with a subtle graininess making Pineapple Acide a hit with brewery staff and patrons alike.

Crafted ERP Teams Up with CLA (CliftonLarsonAllen) to Help Simplify Brewery Management
Crafted ERP and CLA (CliftonLarsonAllen) are pleased to announce a pilot program designed specifically for breweries with limited resources.
DENVER, CO— Managing a brewery may just have gotten a whole lot easier. Crafted ERP and CLA (CliftonLarsonAllen) are pleased to announce a pilot program designed specifically for breweries with limited resources. The new program combines the best of both worlds: 1) terrific brewery management software with 2) professional bookkeeping services.
The combined approach will allow customers to focus on beer production while outsourcing the back-office accounting functions to industry professionals who are well-versed on how a brewery should operate. Designed specifically for breweries with minimal or inexperienced back-office resources, the program promotes professional business operations and reporting. The program will also provide for the easy delivery of other pertinent services such as tax, audit, and consulting. Once a brewery has grown to the point where it needs its own back-office, it can “graduate” from the program and can continue to use the software in its entirety without the outsourced services, or it can retain the outsourcing services that it needs on an a la carte basis and in-source the rest.
Crafted ERP’s BPO Edition is a cloud-native solution built specifically for the brewing industry. The software incorporates everything that an emerging brewery requires with built-in leading practices to ensure professional level operations. Users are able to perform their job function from any device with a browser and an internet connection, and role-specific dashboards allow users to focus only on what they need to get done each day.
“We are excited to kickoff this initiative with CLA to offer the ultimate experience for the brewing industry. CLA’s vast experience in the craft beverage space makes them the ideal group to work with. The combination of best-in-class software with best-in-class professional services is going to change the game. Now even smaller breweries are going to have access to the same tools and capabilities usually reserved for the largest breweries in the country,” said Jeremy King, Co-Founder of Crafted ERP.
“The right software approach is so critical to spending less time crunching numbers and more time doing what makes breweries money – brewing, marketing, and distributing great beer!” said Marcus Bowman, a CLA outsourced CFO who specializes in the brewing industry. “Partnering with Crafted ERP is going to allow us to leverage our industry knowledge into helping breweries grow rather than spend all of our time helping clients to cobble systems together and wondering when is the right time to take the leap to a true ERP system. Crafted ERP’s scalability can make worry about those transitions a thing of the past.”
ABOUT CRAFTED ERP
Crafted ERP is the only end-to-end business management solution created to meet the specific requirements of batch manufacturers. Purpose Brewing & Cellars to Tap Rare Sixtel Keg of pH1
Peter Bouckaert of Purpose Brewing & Cellars has found a sixtel keg of pH1.
FORT COLLINS, CO— In the midst of CBC shenanigans and the second bomb cyclone, Peter Bouckaert of Purpose Brewing & Cellars has found a sixtel keg of pH1. This honey-colored soft sour was aged in the legendary pH1 barrel where it developed a beautiful complexity of its own. The last time the public was able to try this beer was for Purpose’s one-year anniversary last August.
The pH1 barrel itself has been on quite a journey. One of the original nine barrels from New Belgium’s sour beer program in 1998, Peter released these barrels, giving them homes at other breweries with each barrel providing a story to tell. pH1 traveled to Santa Rosa, CA., where it housed Russian River’s Beatification, was delivered back to New Belgium in 2014, and made its way to Rare Barrel in Berkeley, CA where the sour beer company blended a beer with New Belgium. In October 2017, pH1 returned to Purpose Brewing where it now rests. Get the full story on ph1 here.
pH1 will tap tomorrow starting at 12:30 p.m. Good to the last drop, this super rare, limited release is one for the books. Come in and try it at Purpose before it’s gone!

Thirsty Monk Releases Crooked Stave Collaboration, Grace Sour Blend
Grace Sour Blend is a blended sour comprised of barrel and foudre-aged beers from Crooked Stave Artisan Beer Project.
DENVER, CO— Thirsty Monk, brewer of Belgian-Rooted Modern Ales and operator of world-recognized craft beer and craft cocktail bars, is proud to announce Grace Sour Blend, bridging Thirsty Monk Head Brewer, Brian Grace, with his historical residency at Crooked Stave Artisan Beer Project. Grace Sour Blend debuts on tap at all Thirsty Monk locations on Wednesday, April 10th.
Grace Sour Blend is a blended sour comprised of barrel and foudre-aged beers brewed, cellared, and now hand-selected by Thirsty Monk head brewer, Brian Grace during his 3 years as Head Brewer at Crooked Stave Artisan Beer Project.
This project comes after the announcement of Thirsty Monk’s newly developed barrel house, The Woodshed in Denver. This barrel aging facility currently houses Thirsty Monk’s budding sour beer program featuring two foeders and a diverse selection of wine and spirit barrels for which Grace is brewing black, burgundy and golden base, inoculated with wild yeast and bacteria before the addition of fruit, and eventual blending and bottle conditioning.
“I still keep in touch with the team at Crooked Stave including several collaborations since my departure,” explains Grace. “I was discussing with Crooked Stave owner and Brewmaster, Chad Yakobson about how Thirsty Monk is in need of barrel-aged sour offerings while our beers continue to age at The Woodshed. Chad suggested I create a blend with barrel-aged beers in their cellar that I brewed while working there.”
Grace Sour Blend is burgundy in color, with aromas of red wine, leathery Brettanomyces, oak and a light berry bouquet. Flavors swim in a medley of berry fruit and skins, red wine, mild oak and a balanced Brettanomyces funk. The care Grace took in hand selecting this blend is evident in its smooth complexity, showcasing a new direction that the Thirsty Monk family is excited to explore and add to its well rounded beer list.
“As far as the flavor goes I had a clean slate and wasn’t required to make a blend that needed to taste like any other beer,” explains Grace. “So I spent a few days tasting through their cellar, exploring the different flavors of barrels (including gin, wine, and foeder aged barrels) and came up with a unique blend just for Thirsty Monk.”

Elevation Releases Turtles All The Way Up In Collaboration with Terrapin Beer Co.
Elevation Beer Company has collabaorated with Georgia’s Terrapin Beer Co. for a conceptual IPA.
PONCHA SPRINGS, CO— In February, Elevation Beer Company hosted Athens, Georgia’s Terrapin Beer Co. for a conceptual collaboration brew that pays homage to the progression of the hop. The collaboration, Turtles All the Way Up, is now available in six packs and on draft while supplies last.
From classic Cascade to Cryo TM Idaho-7, whole leaf to extract, first wort to dry hop— this beer experiments with the progression of hop varieties and their form. With a pint of this IPA in your hand we hope you can “go and try and have some fun, showing warmth to everyone.”
During the 2018 Craft Brewers Conference in Nashville, with the reunion of two old industry buddies, live music, and a few beers, a collaboration was formulated,” explains Elevation Sales Manager, Adam Kimball. “This winter, Terrapin President Dustin Watts came out to visit family, ride in Crested Butte, and make this collaboration a reality— what better way to bring Terrapin and Elevation together than through the connection of family, mountain life, and beer? It was a long time coming, and with CBC right around the corner it’s great to see this release come full circle.”
“The name, Turtles All the Way Up was inspired by the philosophical question of the infinite regress, Turtles All the Way Down, Sturgill Simpson, and an homage to Terrapin’s mascot,” explains Elevation’s Andy Astor. “We view Turtles All the Way Up as a progression instead of a regression, and wanted to demonstrate that with the different hops varieties used, their forms, and the phases of the brew during when they were use— all with progressions of their own.”
The four hop forms are a progression of the ingredient beginning at its most basic state of whole-leaf hops, to hop pellets, to a further modified liquid hop extract, and arriving at Cryo(tm) hops for the dry-hopping process. The hops themselves are also a progression starting with the all-time classic Cascade to the high alpha proprietary CTZ blend followed by juice bomb Mosaic variety and arriving at the tropical Idaho 7. This progression of hop varieties and forms are followed by a similar progression with the schedule— first wort, early kettle, late kettle and dry hopping additions.
This IPA is bright, with notes of pine, citrus, stone fruit, and gooseberry. Somewhat dry with solid malt backbone. Juicy enough for the present, resinous enough to reminisce upon.
Turtles All The Way Up will be available in canned 6-packs in Colorado and Wyoming while supplies last and is now available on draft at Elevation’s tasting room in Poncha Springs.

Colorado State University Fermentation Science Program Selects Crafted ERP
Colorado State University has selected Crafted ERP to educate Fermentation Science and Technology students.
DENVER, CO— Colorado State University has selected Crafted ERP to educate Fermentation Science and Technology students on how a software solution can and should complement the data management that accompanies the science and art of brewing and fermentation.
CSU Instructor and Brewmaster Jeff Biegert stated: “We run a world-class fermentation science program in a state where we’re surrounded by the pioneers of the craft beer movement from the last three decades, and two of the largest brewers in the world. Our students expect our program to prepare them with best practices in brewing and fermentation management, and, we needed a software that embodied that same expectation. Crafted ERP was the best choice for us as it meets real-world, enterprise standards, with features that allow for ease of use in a classroom environment.”
Leveraging his 27 years of experience across all aspects of production, Biegert wanted to offer his students more than just the science behind fermentation. He wanted to give them a real taste of the production process and all the critical control/data capture points that impact supply chain and inventory management, business decision-making, process analysis and, ultimately, beer quality.
“A proper business software should show you not only what’s happening in production and inventory but allow each department to see how they’re impacting the rest of the organization,” Biegert said. “It’s information in one location, and, it’s one source of the truth. In my experience, data from different sources doesn't always agree, and that can present a real challenge when making quality and efficiency decisions. Crafted ERP is really a holistic solution, exactly what CSU was looking to leverage as we teach the next generation of brewers and food scientists."
Biegert’s position at CSU is partially sponsored by New Belgium Brewing Company, where he has worked in various capacities over the last 17-plus years. These include brewing, fermentation, feasibility and project management, and Lean Six Sigma process improvement and optimization. He has intimate knowledge of the manufacturing process, track and trace, inventory reporting and accounting, and SQL data analytics. He assisted with New Belgium’s implementation of manufacturing software as well as the maintenance and integration challenges with New Belgium’s IT and process automation teams for over a decade. Biegert understands the need for a seamless flow of information that’s not interrupted by disparate systems or IT headaches that can come with on-premise software.
There are challenges in collecting data throughout the brewing process, and having a system that allows users ease of access to data, and analysis of that data eradicated those challenges. Because Crafted is both a cloud-native application as well as a single end-to-end solution that required no IT and no integrations, Biegert quickly gained the support of the rest of his CSU colleagues for the selection.
“We are delighted to team up with CSU and to donate our software for such a great cause,” said Kristin Steele, Co-Founder and Principal at Doozy Solutions, LLC, the company behind Crafted ERP and the $75,000 donation.
