Comrade Brewing Combats COVID-19 with Beer To-Go and Delivery via Craft Alley

To say thank you to their customers, Comrade is offering $1 off Crowlers of Superpower while supplies last.

Image.jpg

DENVER, CO— Comrade Brewing acted in accordance with the public health order Tuesday, shutting down dine-in service. Comrade continues to sling their award-winning beer at their South Denver tasting room, and has partnered with Craft Alley for Crowler delivery service.

Comrade has to-go beer available from 1 to 7pm Monday through Friday, and noon to 7pm Saturday and Sunday, and will take orders over the phone for pick-up at (303) 748-0700. Craft Alley also now offers Comrade as part of their delivery service

To say thank you to their customers, Comrade is offering $1 off Crowlers of Superpower while supplies last, and covering the glass growler cost of all 64oz fills.

“It’s important to shop local and at family owned businesses whenever possible,” says David Lin Comrade’s Chairman and Founder. “This shutdown is unprecedented and has completely upended the hospitality industry. If you're able to, a little extra tip goes a long way.”

Comrade continues to pay employee health insurance premiums as well as continuing vision, dental, and 401k during this time.  Bartenders are also doing extra cleaning, maintenance, painting, repairing vandalism and getting the taproom looking better than ever.

For more information, contact David Lin at chairman@comradebrewing.com

C-Star Provisions Donates All Nashville Hot Jerky Sales To Staff For Coronavirus Relief

From now until May 1, one hundred percent of profits from the pre-sale of Nashville Hot will go back to staff who have been impacted by the shutdowns.

SAN DIEGO, CA— In the wake of the Coronavirus pandemic, C-Star Provisions has pivoted the plan for its next specialty jerky release to support its staff at the Cowboy Star Restaurant & Butcher Shop locations in San Diego and Colorado Springs. From now until May 1, one hundred percent of profits from the pre-sale of their newest flavor, Nashville Hot, will go back to staff who have been impacted by the shutdowns.

Nashville Hot is a premium American Angus beef jerky crafted with cayenne and chili peppers, Louisiana hot sauce, and organic honey. The product is low in sodium, sugar, carbohydrates and fat, and high in protein— great for Keto and Paleo diets.

"The days after closing both restaurants felt like the world as we knew it was coming to an end, but the unwavering spirit of the Cowboy Star team has always been the driving force behind the brand,” says Angie Weber, Cowboy Star’s Co-Owner. “Combining the launch of CStar Provisions newest jerky flavor with a team member support fund is the perfect win-win. We could not be more excited to bring our Nashville Hot Jerky to the world while supporting the team that is there for us every day.”

C-Star Provisions also crafts American Waygu, Chimchurri, Bourbon Pepper, and Steakhouse Stout (using Karl Strauss Wreck Alley Imperial Stout) jerky flavors. “Our jerky was born at the Cowboy Star bar and everyone there has been such a huge asset in growing the C-Star Provisions brand that reciprocating their ongoing support with Nashville Hot was a no-brainer,” adds C-Star Provisions Co-Founder Andy Muntean.

Jerky and spice lovers can pre-order at shopcstar.com. Bags of this inspired jerky cost $9.99.

For more information about this COVID-19 relief effort or the Cowboy Star family, contact Andy Muntean at andy@shopcstar.com.

Follow Along Drifter Brewing Company's Captain’s Log During Their Strict 21 Day Lockdown

South Africa is under as strict, 21 day lockdown that started on Thursday, March 26th. Here’s how Drifter Brewing is staying afloat.

Our Co-Founder and Captain, Nick, video chatting with Operations Director, Carl.

Our Co-Founder and Captain, Nick, video chatting with Operations Director, Carl.

While the United States is under a nation-wide shelter-in-place order, South Africa is now officially a week into a lockdown. Unlike other parts of the world, their lockdown is extremely strict. Strict may even be putting it lightly.

Residents can’t leave their houses for walks, even to walk dogs, and no alcohol is allowed to be sold anywhere, which includes supermarkets, liquor stores, and more. This also means that restaurants and cafes are completely closed, with no delivery options. The only time residents are able to leave their residence is to buy essentials, such as groceries and medicines. The country even set up police roadblocks and military patrols in neighborhoods to ensure compliancy, as people are getting fined or arrested if they aren’t out to do essential shopping. Recently, two surfers in Jeffrey’s Bay tried to go out for a paddle and were arrested.

While this does cause difficulties for Drifter Brewing Company and other breweries and small businesses in South Africa, we feel that this decision is smart and will help flatten the curve a lot quicker than what we’re seeing in other parts of the world where lockdowns aren’t as stringent.

A large consideration into enforcing the strict lockdown is how many people are already immune-compromised with TB and HIV, and how many millions are living in close proximity to one another in townships (slums) with zero running water. Coronavirus would be a massacre in these areas, which is why governments across the continent are cracking down hard.

So what have we been able to do at Drifter?

As soon as the case numbers started coming in, we realized that we would be heading down the same path as many countries already have. Because of that, we quickly adjusted from looking at less distribution to bottle shops and restaurants and more towards at-home deliveries. In light of that, we set up a Shopify site and encouraged folks to buy directly from us.

Then, we were thrown for another loop. Last Monday evening, March 23rd, we received the news that the entire nation would be going into a strict lockdown from Thursday, March 26th, at 11:59 pm that would last for 21 days. When the knowledge of no alcohol being sold was announced, we knew we had to hustle in the window of time remaining. Needless to say, that week was absolutely hectic.

“I wanted our staff to stay healthy and safe,” shares Anna Anderson, one of Drifter’s Co-Founders, “I did a majority of the deliveries myself while most of our team worked remotely besides the brew crew.”

Drifter’s next challenge was what to do about the brewery with none of us being able to go in physically as this isn’t classified as essential work and we’re not allowed to leave our houses unless we’re deemed in one those industries. We need someone there to check tanks, top-up electricity (which is on a pay as you go system here in South Africa), and generally make sure things are okay at our location for the three weeks of lockdown.

While we were scrambling after hearing the news of the 21 day lockdown, Nick, our co-founder and captain of the Drifter ship, was overseas for business. He flew back to South Africa on that Thursday, just a mere six hours before the borders were completely closed. He’s now self-quarantines at Drifter, which solves our problem of finding someone to check on everything.

But does that mean he’ll spend the 21 days alone in the brewery? That’s to be determined. In light of this, we’ve started a YouTube series about his adventures of his daily activities — including building a swing from the eye beam — and documenting it all in his Captain’s Log.

“In terms of looking ahead, the only thing we can control right now is social media,” says Anna, “So we're trying our best to keep the brand and spirit alive while we take the daily and weekly knock of no sales.”

Strange Craft Beer Company Releases Its First Canned Beer: Strange Times

Strange Craft is able release their first canned beer, aptly named Strange Times, as a direct result of the kindness and generosity of friends in the industry.

StrangeTimes.jpg

DENVER, CO— The immense amount of support the craft community has shown to one another is heartwarming and shows the strong spirit of the industry. Strange Craft Beer Company is able release their first canned beer, aptly named Strange Times, as a direct result of the kindness and generosity of friends in the industry.

Strange Times is a Baltic Porter barrel-aged for three months in a Kentucky Wheated Bourbon barrel provided by Argonaut Wine & Liquor. The resulting beer stands up well to the sweet floral and bold vanilla notes of t he bourbon barrel, coupled with hits of spice and cinnamon as it finishes. Strange Times will be a very limited release of 750 cans.

Heres’s how it all came together with the help of our special community. Strange Craft’s own Dave Palmer designed the tongue-in-cheek artwork featured on the inaugural cans. The cans were provided and filled by Codi Manufacturing, a Colorado canning line manufacturer who generously offered to can beers for front range breweries after the breweries were suddenly shut down as part of the COVID19 stay at home order.

The Baltic Porter recipe is a collaboration between Strange Craft and Freetail Brewing of San Antonio, Texas. This batch was initially brewed for the Colorado Brewers Guild’s 7th Collaboration Festival, which has been cancelled due to the current pandemic.

Tim Myers, Strange Craft’s head brewer shares, "We brewed a seven barrel batch, but only put four barrels in Rye Whiskey barrels that had just held Freetail's award-winning La Muerta Imperial Stout. I had all this extra Baltic Porter that we were just going to tap when Argonaut's James Fisher called me about a Kentucky Wheated Whiskey barrel he had just received. His timing was perfect, and we filled it the next day."

As it says on the label, "In these unprecedented times, it is important that we not lose sight of what is most important - family, friends, and neighbors. We must support one another, because only together can we overcome this challenging ordeal." Strange Craft is honored to participate in this limited release collaboration with Argonaut because they’ve consistently been supportive of Strange Craft.

You can find Strange Times only at Argonaut Wine & Liquor and the Strange Craft taproom for to-go sales starting April 2nd. But at 750 cans, this special release won't last long!

ABOUT STRANGE CRAFT BEER CO.

When Strange Craft Beer Co. opened south of Denver’s Mile High Stadium in May 2010, it was the first nanobrewery in the city brewing one barrel of beer at a time. Strange has since become a destination spot for Colorado beer drinkers, and taken home multiple Great American Beer Festival® medals and World Beer Cup® awards. Late in 2017, Strange Craft joined forces with Wit’s End Brewing Company to create Denver’s first co-tasting room. Both brands are brewed on Strange Craft’s now 10BBL brewhouse and served at Strange Craft’s original (now shared) space on Zuni Street. Learn more at strangecraft.com.

Although we may not be returning as Good Word Brewing & Public House (for now), we will be reopening our doors on April 1st for to-go pick up/curbside orders from a safe distance. While we wish that we can continue to operate as a Public House, where you can sit, chat, and enjoy the company of friends and strangers, we are reopening our doors with an adapted vision.

Our mission from the beginning was to server our community and we plan to remain true to that to the end. We appreciate your suggestions and have given much thought to many of them.

We will be open Wednesday through Sunday from 4 to 8pm for to-go food orders and from noon to 4 pm for craft beer to-go. You can check out our take out menu and call us at (404) 973-2077 to order ahead. We are also offering gift cards as well.

We will have to move our soup kitchen to Sundays only, serving you from 11am to 3pm and we’ll be donating anything leftover to Meals by Grace. This has been something that we’re extremely passionate about and want to continue to do in the midst of all that’s happening. We’ve felt very supported about this, having had so many individuals reach out to us about volunteering.

If you’re looking for additional ways to help, please consider donating to The Giving Kitchen, an organization that aids restaurant workers when they are in need, or giving to our GoFundMe, which will directly support our hourly staff while we are not able to fully reopen our doors.

The Brewtography Project Creatively Gives Back to the Craft Community

Dustin Hall of The Brewtography Project donates 120 copies of his book, Discovering Colorado Breweries, to encourage everyone to support their local breweries.

Discovering+Colorado+Breweries+.jpg

Although these last few weeks have been a turbulent time for the craft industry, the spirit of the industry never wavered. The passion that dives our industry has never been stronger, and continues to grow each and every day. Breweries across the board have been working quickly to adapt to the quick changing environment. Every little bit helps small businesses during these difficult times.

To support the industry that he loves during this time, Dustin Hall of The Brewtography Project decided to give away 120 copies of his book, Discovering Colorado Breweries, to encourage everyone to patron their local breweries.

The Brewtography Project has been going strong for seven years now, and Dustin Hall credits it all to the support and encouragement of the industry and the individuals who work in it.

“This industry has always been amazing to me and has given me untethered access to what they do. Without them, there would not be The Brewtography Project as we know it. So, it’s important for me to do what I can to help,” shares Dustin.

Starting today, he’ll be giving away the last copies of his book to anyone who spends the book’s price ($50) or more at their local, U.S. based craft brewery. “Help out your favorite local brewery, feel great about doing some good, and get a bonus for yourself! It’s a win all around!”

There’s no doubt that Dustin’s passion for the industry knows no bounds. We’re very lucky that he’s continuously shared his incredible photography with us, and now he’s going the extra mile to encourage individuals to continue to support the industry he loves so much.

Full details about how to submit your proof of purchase and the fine print can be found here.

Bonfire Brewing Responds to COVID-19 with BonFamily Shirts; Beer To-Go Options Now Available

The team at Bonfire acted overnight to design their new BonFamily t-shirt in partnership with JB T-shirts.

90082763_3124061320957905_8345951166500175872_n.jpg

EAGLE, CO— Bonfire Brewing announced a new t-shirt and support campaign for its employees in the wake of COVID-19 today. BonFamily t-shirts feature all 16 of Bonfire’s employees and all proceeds will directly benefit this small tight-knit team.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Bonfire Brewing Company has refined its service for to-go only as of Monday, March 16th, effectively and instantly eliminating 70 percent of its business. While liquor stores remain accessible, Bonfire is encouraging local customers to consider growler and crowler fills through the tap room, in an effort to deplete kegs that have nowhere to go with bars and restaurants across the state shut down.

The team at Bonfire acted overnight to design their new BonFamily t-shirt in partnership with JB T-Shirts. “100 percent— every single penny— of revenue we generate from the sale of these will be used to offset the devastating drop in wages faced by our team, and nothing else. It won't be nearly enough, but it's something,” said Bonfire owners Andy and Amanda Jessen in a statement Wednesday. These shirts are available for purchase here, and will be at the tasting room next week.

Bonfire beers are available in canned 6-packs across Colorado at liquor and grocery stores. Packaged beers by Bonfire include Firestarter IPA, Kindler Pale Ale, WtFO Double IPA, and Brush Creek Blonde Ale. For now, Bonfire is forging ahead with its spring and summer seasonal beers, as they’re already fermenting. Perennial customer favorite Pink-I Raspberry IPA and newcomer La Tina Mexican Lager, will be packaged and distributed the week of April 6th.

Bonfire is taking action to best protect its staff and customers with additional cleaning and sanitization measures. In addition, in-person visits from the Bonfire sales team have been largely discontinued, and eligible employees are working remotely. The brewery website, bonfirebrewing.com, also has regular updates regarding the brewery’s response to COVID-19.

Thirsty Monk Offers To-Go Service in Asheville During Bar Closure; Closes Denver and Portland Locations in Response to COVID-19

Orders will be call-in and walkup for the immediate time, and a new online ordering portal will be up-and-running by Friday.

90309196_10157082328377113_1322114577227317248_n.jpg

With the heaviest of hearts, Thirsty Monk will adjust service at some Asheville locations through the weekend and discontinue service in Denver and Portland in response to COVID-19.

Thirsty Monk will reduce service to pickup and to-go orders only at its Biltmore Park and Downtown Asheville locations. Orders will be call-in and walkup for the immediate time, and a new online ordering portal. The company promises to diligently sterilize and clean these locations to keep everyone safe.

In addition to Thirsty Monk Brewery cans and bottles and food, these locations will also honor and support fellow Asheville breweries with a mixed 4-pack of rotating Asheville beer from other breweries. “Over the years Thirsty Monk helped introduce many of our Asheville breweries to the community and we recognize they are also feeling the same pain we are now feeling,” said Thirsty Monk CEO Barry Bialik in a letter to staff.

As developments on this pandemic continue to change the status of all service businesses by the hour, Thirsty Monk urges guests to buy beer, food, and merchandise to-go this weekend while the company still has opportunities to serve guests.

In Denver and Portland, Thirsty Monk will discontinue service for the time being.

“We will all remain strong and rely on our inner grit to get through this together. And we will. We will grow, we will be stronger, and we will all be wiser people once we are on the other side of this world crisis,” adds Bialik.

Orders for The Empourium’s sessionable beer lineup can be placed by emailing orders@theempourium.com. Guests can also opt for curbside pickup of beer, merchandise, gift cards, and other merchandise at the brewery from 2 to 6pm daily.

The Empourium’s one year anniversary party, slated for April 18, is postponed until further notice.

The #POURtrait challenge is now extended, with a final deadline for submissions to be announced later in spring. Share your selfies or portraits in front of the brewery mural by Drew Button, tag @dbuttonink and @empouriumbrew, and tag #POURtrait for the chance to win free beer for a year— and a colorful, fun addition to social media feeds in a time when we need color, fun, and beer the very most.

In the wake of COVID-19,  The Empourium is taking action to best protect its staff and customers with additional cleaning and sanitization measures. Check the brewery website theempourium.com, for regular updates on the company’s response to COVID-19.
