BUENA VISTA, CO — Last year, Deerhammer Distilling produced more handcrafted spirits than ever before and experienced record growth in sales, which are up by 262 percent statewide, among other milestones.
Here is Deerhammer Distilling’s 2016 Year In Review
In 2016, Deerhammer distilled 6,217 gallons of whiskey. The majority of this volume represents the distillery’s flagship product Single Malt Whiskey. Deerhammer only distributes its spirits in the state of Colorado.
Last year Deerhammer reinvigorated its package with new glass bottles that have a traditional whiskey shape with sleek curvature. The new label designs are cleaner and bolder, with incorporated visual elements that commemorate why Deerhammer crafts whiskey in Buena Vista— including compass points on each corner to highlight the distillery’s rugged mountain surroundings. Also included in the new design is a small illustration of nearby Mount Princeton, river waves, wind, and diamond trailhead markers. The new labels were designed by Tim Praetzel out of Austin, Texas.
Looking Ahead
Next month at the Colorado Brewers Guild’s Collaboration Fest, Locavore Beer Works and Aquanaut Brewing will serve a beer that was aged in Deerhammer Single Malt Whiskey barrels. Look for more details about this beer on Deerhammer’s Facebook page.
Next for Deerhammer is the roll out of the Progeny Series, a lineup of small-batch spirits created through inspired partnerships with other crafters in Colorado, including a whiskey and chocolate pairing with Cultura Chocolate, and other collaborations with Wit’s End Brewing Company, Call To Arms Brewing, Crooked Stave, and Colorado Cider Company.

Ryan is now in remission, and the joke morphed into The Ryan Anthony Foundation, who in 2015 put on CancerBlows, a once-in-a-lifetime musical event bringing together the most famous trumpet players in the world. The event raised more than $1 million with all of the net proceeds donated to the Baylor Health Care Research Foundation and Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation that work toward a cure for cancer. Barrels & Bottles Brewery Announces New Head Brewer Cory Carvatt
GOLDEN, CO — Barrels & Bottles Brewery is proud to announce Cory Carvatt as its new Head Brewer. Carvatt joined the company in November 2015, and has since created several new beers that are now Barrels & Bottles in-house staples like the Orange Creamsicle Ale, a Blonde Ale brewed with orange peel and vanilla beans.
Carvatt came to Barrels & Bottles Brewery from the brewing team by way of beertending staff at Dry Dock Brewing Company. While brewing there he attended the American Brewer's Guild.
“I fell in love with wine and beer while working for my parents at their liquor store,” says Carvatt. “Left with the opportunity to go to New Zealand to work a summer internship at a wine vineyard or interview for a beertending gig at Dry Dock, I decided beer was my future.”
Learn more about Cory’s brewing story on Tuesday, March 22 at Barrels & Bottles’ Meet The Brewer Night for Colorado Craft Beer Week. From 4 to 8pm, the brewpub is pouring complimentary five-ounce tastes of house beers. There are more details about this event on the brewery’s Facebook page.

Lone Tree Brewing and Sycamore Brewing Collaborate on Breakthrough India Pale Lager
LONE TREE, CO — Since the inception of the Great American Beer Festival 33 years ago, the “American-Style Lager or Light Lager” category has been dominated by macro-breweries. That was until 2015 when Lone Tree Brewing Company took silver for its Summer Siesta and Sycamore Brewing (Charlotte, NC) took bronze for its Southern Girl Lager.
“Both of our breweries immediately did the natural thing and celebrated heavily, and after a few well earned beers we reached out to each other to say congratulations,” says Sycamore Brewing owner, Justin Brigham. “We found that our breweries are really co-minded and in a pretty special small world moment, we realized that we have mutual friends in Colorado.”
Now, the two breweries have teamed up for a collaboration brew that will debut at the third annual Collaboration Fest on March 19 at Sports Authority Field.
The celebration collaboration is an India Pale Lager, with a batch brewed at both Lone Tree and Sycamore. Each brewery tailored its IPL recipe to include unique ingredients specific to their location— both breweries immediately ruled out marijuana and tobacco. Lone Tree used malted sunflower seeds from Colorado in its brew, according to head brewer Josh West.
“We named this collaboration beer "Breakthrough IPL" to recognize the first time ever in the history of GABF that micro breweries won the majority of the medals in the American Lager category,” says West. “We were honored to have the opportunity to create another exceptional lager with Sycamore Brewing Company and can't wait to have craft beer fans try this new brew!”
